On entry into Thailand you will have received a 60 day permission to stay. Towards the end of that period go to immigration and extend your stay for a further 30 days (fee 1900 baht). At 90 days you will need to do a border run to activate your second entry. That will give you a further 60 day stay. Prior to expiry go to immigration to extend again for 30 days (fee 1900 baht). You need to watch the dates carefully here because you need to exit and re-enter Thailand by 24th Feb 2010 at the latest to activate your third entry. Again, you will get 60 day permission to stay on entry. Then extend again at immigration for a further 30 days (fee 1900 baht). Total stay = nearly 9 months.

You can stay 60 days on you first entry, from the 3 sept.

In the last week before the 60 days expires, go to Immigration and request a 30 day extension.

After the 30 days you must leave and re-enter Thailand, a "Border Run"

As you come back you will get a new 60 days.

At the end request another 30 day extension.

At this point you have to be careful.

If you use the full 30 days it may take you past the 25th Feb when the visa expires and you will loose the third entry.

You need to do a Border Run on the 24th Feb and then you will get the third and last entry for 60 days,

and this can also be extended for 30 days.

After all that you should go home.

Hi

How did you manage to get a triple tourist visa? Where did you apply for this? I would love to get one!

Thanks

Unless you are planning to travel in/out of Thailand there is no real benefit in having a triple entry tourist visa over double entry tourist visa, as the final entry into the Kingdom (third period) has to be made within 3 months of visa issue.

Where are you now? It is easier to obtain outside the region. Or alternatively obtain multiple entry Non-O visa from Europe or Australia giving 90 day permission to stay each time. Do a border run before the visa expires and stretch visa to 15 months. Within the region the only report I have seen of an embassy issuing triple entry is Vientianne. That was in June. See here . Vientianne is still currently issuing double entry tourist visas free of charge.

Hi

I am in South Africa and trying to decide which Visa is best to apply for. I can definately get a 3 month non immigrant B visa but when that expires I would need to do a border run and get a new Visa as I dont qualify to extend the non immigramt B Visa.

Do you think that a double entry tourist Visa would be best if I can get it? Is this different to the multiple entry Non O visa?

Thanks for your help.

You will not get new Non-B visa in the region without a work permit, or receipt for applying for work permit, and that would require sponsorship from a Thai company. Your previous posts give no valid reason for you to obtain extension of stay. Vientianne is currently issuing double entry tourist visa free of charge. With extensions, and a border run in the middle, that would give you nearly a further 6 months stay. Or go to Europe/Australia and obtain multi-entry Non-O visa which would give you 15 month stay with 90 day border runs. Is up to you.

Sorry I shoud have clarified that I can get a non immigrant B Visa from the embassy in South Africa based on looking for potrntial business/investment opportunities - but like you say after 3 months I would not be able to extend without work permit etc. But at least I would have the initial 3 months without having to do an extension or border run. I am leaving in December.

However it sounds like I would be better off if I can get the double entry tourist visa or the multi-entry non-O Visa for 6 months or 15 months respectively. But I will need to see if either one is issued in South Africa. Going to Europe is not an option right now.

Doeas that sound like are my best options? Any issues Ishould know about with the non immigrant B Visa? I just chose it as it was 3 months straight with no extension fees.

This would be the embassy in Pretoria you are dealing with? If so, their rules on visa issuance are quite strict based on another poster's recent experience. Have a look at their website www.thaiembassy.co.za

You have to decide what works best for you. If you can get single-entry Non-B from home country then that would give you 90 day permission to stay on entry. Then you could obtain double entry tourist visa through Vientianne or maybe go to Perth for Non-O. Or maybe your embassy can give you something different to Non-B at the outset.

maybe true with vientiane but with Helsinki and I am pretty sure a long list of other countries as well when you get a triple entry tourist visa you have 6 months of validity giving you almost 9 months of total stay when the use is optimized

Yes its the embassy in Pretoria. I am dealing with a contact who has been very helpful there. I guess all I can do is ask about the other Visa types. We discussed the 60 day tourist Visa but nothing was said about the double entry or Non-O. So the non imm B looked best.

I am not going to be working but do want to stay there indefinately. I actually want to retire but I am too youg to get the retirment visa!

Different embassies, different rules. 3 months for Vientianne. Other embassies/consulates that issue I have seen 5 or 6 months mentioned.
