Pixie
There's four or five english book shops arounjd Tapae gate that specialise in the latest second hand Jeffrey Archers. Where can I find a decent book shop? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Excuse me, but it sounds like you have not bothered to poke your head in any of them. Other than Aum, which is more of a veggie restaurant, all of the bookstores around Thapae are filled with excellent books of every type and genre. Lots of currently written history and science titles in every store. Tons of tomes on Buddhism and Southeast Asia. All of the current back-packer cult favorites, modern classics and old timey classics. Lots of new age, plus a great selection of John Grisham, Mr Archer, James Patterson, Andy McNab, Ian Rankin and airport friends. Chiang Mai has the best selection of paperbacks in Northeast and Southeast Asia. If you can't find what you want there, better save up for a ticket to Charing Cross Road in Blighty. Where can I find a decent book shop? In view of the great numbers of farang intellectuals and academics who have chosen to settle down in Lamphun and open bookshops, I don't know why you bother coming to filthy Chiang Mai at all? Seriously speaking, if you gave a few pointers as to what you like to read and what you expect to find in a bookshop, it would be a lot easier to give you recommendations. I know all the major bookshops in CM and a few of the smaller ones as well.
