September 25, 200916 yr Had a meal with friends at the Millenium Hilton last year, great to sit outside gazing at the Chao Praya on an evening with friends and great food. Any other recommendations?

September 25, 200916 yr Westin Grande's Thanksgiving buffet spread - Awesome! They have it all, the traditional fare, plus seafood, Thai food, Mediterranean cuisine and more! A few years ago they had a Michelin star chef doing the turkey! Also, not even close to the river, but equally awesome is the Tuesday all you can eat Mexican buffet at Bourbon St. (www.bourbonstbkk.com) only 299 baht!!! They also do all you can eat Creole food for their anniversary, Christmas, etc. Aloha Edited September 25, 200916 yr by WorldwideALOHA

Does your friend earn points if you use his card?

The Sunday buffet is a bit more.

September 25, 200916 yr The Banyan Tree, Awesome selection of food, everything from steaks to pasta's and fresh jumbo shrimps cooked up while you wait. The only bad thing is that everything looks so good that you want to try it all but you can't
September 25, 200916 yr Marriot Riverside, Trader Vics - 2nd only to the Sukhothai in my opinion. Typical Trader Vic's food (Cantonese/Island-influenced), or is the buffet more international?
September 25, 200916 yr Sheraton does a nice inside/outside with a bbq which is great. Shangrila also does one in their Next 2 Cafe right next to the river.
September 25, 200916 yr If money is no object and you are looking for a high-so atmosphere with the best view of the city (and the river), I suggest you check out State Tower on the 64th floor. I go there every so often and it doesn't disappoint my guests. The breakfast buffet (forgot the floor) is fit for a king and queen. ______ OH! I almost forgot... the Oriental Hotel by the river - lunch, dinner, coffee in the Author's Lounge.... life doesn't get much better! Edited September 25, 200916 yr by EffectiveAnger

Thanks Here is a link: http://www.lebua.com/bangkok/dining/ There are about 6 restaurants in this hotel (prices vary), but the Dome restaurants are the most expensive and the best place in Bangkok to see and be seen. It's well advised to dress your best, but not absolutely necessary if you are just there for a drink. There should be no need to book if your party is four or less. Over four, definately book! If you are visiting anytime soon, you may also want to invest in an umbrella to go with those bell bottom slacks and groovy sunglasses

I found this one: http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g2...er-Bangkok.html It's mostly about the hotel, but all good things said the restaurants, especially Sirroco. Rainy season ends in October. Anyhow, it rarely ever rains around dinner time here regardless of the season. Before you judge a book by it's cover... see for yourself. BTW, this is not a place to wear trendy (especially tourist) junk. You'll stick out like a sore thumb.

Now, if you can come up with the same thing for the Sukothai, then you really would be the man!
September 25, 200916 yr Don't get me wrong the view is fantastic from Sirocco. The food is good - but doesn't match the view IMO. As for reviews, take a quick search on TV for plenty of comparisons / reviews. Hardly rains during dinner time? Hmm for the last 3 nights its rained between 7-10 pm. Perhaps it doesn't rain on the 64th floor though. Edit to add in this link about the Dome Restauarants vs Banyan Tree http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/Banyan-Tree-...nt-t244045.html Edited September 25, 200916 yr by bkkjames

September 26, 200916 yr Author Lots of great suggestions people, many thanks, the view from Sirocco looks worth the lift journey! We will give it a go!
