Hi

I am getting conflicting information regards a triple entry tourist visa.

I have confirmed that with a triple entry Visa I will get an initial 60 days when I enter the country which i can extend for an additional 30 days.

Then i need to do a border run. The embassy official I spoke to said that I would then get another 30 days when i re-entered which i could then extend by another 30 days. This will be repeated for the 3rd entry.

BUT in the posts I have been reading I have seen that othere people get 60 days again when they re-enter for the second time.

Please can someone clarify.

Also does it make a difference if you re-enter by land or air?

Thanks

If you receive 60 days for the first entry you will receive a new 60 days for each entry regardless of how many there are. Each 60 day stay can be extended up to 30 days; that that is optional. The thing you have to watch for is that last entry is made while visa is still valid (which may not be the same as your last permitted to stay until date).

Ok thanks - it is beginning to make sense now between the triple entry and the double entry. In theory the triple sounds better but in practise the double entry makes more sense if you are not planning on travelling.

So you would do the second entry on day 89 - after you have extended the first 60 days by extra 30.

Please can you tell me what you actually do when you do a border run if you already have a double entry tourist visa i.e. on the second entry you go to a foreign country but do you then have to go to a thai consulate?

Or if you have the double entry visa do you just go in and then turn around and go back out?

Thanks

To activate your 2nd or 3rd entry you just need to do a border crossing and pass through immigration in the other country. Stay for just 1 minute if you want to then come back.

You have to be careful about the "utilise before" date that will show on your visa. Usually it is 6 months before you have to use 3rd entry. I have seen one report of 5 months. Vientianne will only give you 3 months. Best to check with your embassy/consulate how long they will give you as it may affect your plans.

Unfortunately embassy officials are notorious for their ignorance of the real immigration procedures once you reach Thailand.
