Another Restaurant Thread :p

On those few occasion Mr.Eek and I go out to dinner in the evening, we usually end up and either Khun Churn or The Riverside for the boat cruise.

The main problem is finding out which restaurants have a decent veg section for me. I particularly love it though when we find a nice veg restaurant because Mr.Eek and i can share our fav foods.

Does anyone know of some nice (reasonably priced, not high end please!) places we can try?

(Neither of us are fans of overly loud music. Like to chat and eat..and, if it has one, enjoy the view).

Would like some variety!

The "Antique Restaurant" (whatever the name actually is) almost across the street from PornPing on the river road, used to be pretty cool many years ago but we haven't been there for a long time. Quiet, kicked back, a little waterfall, live and gentle Northern music..

We (and i'm not any royal, just me and my partner) frequently go to the Huen Boran (Antique House) on the river south of the main nawarat bridge. The one you mention is more aimed at the tourists, while the one we go to is mostly a thai clientele. Wonderful location, right by the river, and an extensive menu. We eat only a little meat these days, but often we can have excellent non-meat dishes here. There is even an excellent chicken spicy soup which is made from free range chickens. Yam gin gai, but very spicy!

It's also next to the white house and the tara bar, and the gymkhana club is nearby, so lots of entertainment in one place.

I thoroughly recommend the Whole Earth restaurant on Sri Donchai - east from/close to the Chang Klan intersection. Nice atmosphere, smooth service and not expensive considering the quality and location. Huge choice of excellent Thai/Indian vegetarian dishes. Best tables (IMO) for what the OP appears to like are on the upper terrace/balcony that circles the main building. I've seen that they also have tables laid out in an area in the garden - though maybe not in the rainy season?

I do indeed have a tapeworm but if I call my wife that to her face I will wish that I had been wearing a helmet.

My (our) curiousity about veggie restaurants is for my tapewo.. wife since I very rarely do the 'food thing'. I have had no sense of hunger (or thirst) whatsoever for almost twenty years so my body has somehow discovered how to survive with almost no food.

I forgot about the Whole Earth and agree. We (the worm) ate there many years ago and it was a pleasant experience indeed.

I have to point out that the Indian food at the Whole Earth is not authentic, but it still tastes pretty good and is a nice building.

Much larger menu. Lots of veggies but gai, moo, plah, beef as well. I've been going there recently and get chicken-cashew-steamed rice. Other times, I'm a cowpat guy. I like Kuhn Mor more, frankly.

I (and the GF & friends) quite enjoyed the Antique the last time we were there.

Prices were reasonably and food quite good.

BUT 'eek' what do you mean by vegies ? I have been (and a friend also does them to a treat) doing roast potato's. mung kaew, pumpkin etc., green peas lashings of gravy and the rest of the fixings.

But maybe's that's not what you are seeking.

Ahhh, not expensive eh?? I guess this is all relative, but for some of us, especially teachers, that place most certainly IS expensive. Especially when you add the 17% or whatever.

I did try out a Taste of Heaven in the daytime when it was recently opened. I was on my own, and the food was delicious. So, when my bf and I were down that way I suggested we go eat there. But, that time neither of us could eat the food. We just paid and left. I dont know what happened that day, maybe the chef was off and a temp was in or something..but was really pretty bad. But then a couple of weeks ago I ordered from them from through "Meals On Wheels", and the food was delicious. So..i am guessing the day we went was some kind of muck up or something. Shows that its worth giving a place another chance, but in saying they did lose my/our (small) custom for some time. Anyway, glad they have the thumbs up. So, will see how it looks in the evening some time.

Also about a year ago we went for lunch at Whole Earth, and although I thought the food and environment was really wonderful, i did find it on the pricey side, so for me is more for a special occasion.

Will take a look at Khun Mor sometime. I did notice them, but wasnt particularly drawn to the environment (really like restaurants that have some greenery/views/etc. Hah! Im quite fussy on a budget eh! )

Im not a veggie but i tried taste of heaven in thapae road and it was a great meal and good friendly service, my veggie friend who took me there goes all the time and she's quite a fussy eater so it must be up to scratch.

Ban Rai Yarm Yen in San Pee Seua is a big Lanna style place and one of my favorite restaurants in town. Though the place can get busy on a weekend evening, it still retains a nice atmosphere.
