I recently bought a new Pc with Vista installed. The wife has tried to call back to Thailand on a few occasions and it works. But only for a few minutes before the conversation dies. She cant hear them or they cant hear her. She has been using a Logitech headset connected to an USB port. But i have no idea why it keeps cutting off. So i thought i would ask on here if anyone else has ahd the same problem. She is currently using the Laptop with XP installed and using an earpiece with no problems. Any thoughts guys?

I started using Skype about 3 weeks ago for the first time. I works pretty well fo me. I have a wifi connection that's reasonably fast but even still occasionaly the line is bad. I have to hang up and re-dial the number and then it usualy works okay, sometimes i have to do it more than once.

I undestand that Skype works with Vista. If the person you are calling can hear you and you can hear them then the headphones are working. The problems i would guess is Skype. I'ts normal for from what i hear. Skype to Skype is free after all. :)

I use skype computer to computer for hours each day. Vista and Vista or XP and Vista depending on what computer I'm using. I'm on 3.5G with Huawei E220 dongle and the wife usually connects via dsl. Both of us use USB headsets.

The only time we have problems similar to what you describe is when one of the connections slows and more commonly when the wife is connected to Edge via Huawei E220 dongle.

At times when one party can't hear the other I find if both log out and resign on skype it usually fixes the problem. Dropped calls still happen every now and then even with good connections.

It may be an electrical fault with your headset Jockstar although i think your problems may be more related to a slow connection speed. I'm currently using a logitech usb headset, prior to that microsoft and some generic prior to that. Most of the problems I've encountered have been due to slow connection speeds usually on the Thai end.

I use skype to the UK and Spain several times a week - no problem (I'm in Bkk with an true 2mb connection).

In Spain they have a slow *dsl connection which sometimes causes problems; no video, no sound, erratic connection... it's usually down to the lowest common denominator - which might be skype when it's very busy, but more often than not the slowest / lowest bandwidth. If the call is okay then starts to die, it's very unlikely to be your headset; most likely her connection method...

I just got this phone http://www.consumer.philips.com/c/internet...e/21586/cat/gb/ as there is no release date for this phone http://share.skype.com/sites/skypegear/200...hone_the_p.html

The first one is available from Amazon for £32.99 http://www.amazon.co.uk/Philips-VOIP321-Co...nics&sr=1-7 It does require the PC to be on but the Skype quality is superb. Use with Skype out and you pay £3.39 a month or discount that by 15% for a year and money back from cashback sites brings it down even more.

Alternatively, you may be able to use Skype in and use your normal phone, again, capped at £3.39 per month or less.

Get rid of daft headsets unless you want to sit in front of the computer and then just get a Logitech 9000 Pro camera and microphone.

If you want to use a telephone then make a telephone call.

If you want voice over IP (or something similar) then use your computer...

Surely all laptops come with a camera / video, mike and speakers... mine are just fine. Use a headphone for what???
