I have recently arrived in Phuket and i'm now looking to set up VOIP at home to make some business calls to Australia. 80% of calls will be to Australian Mobiles and the rest landlines, roughly 50 calls per day. I'm not too technically minded and this is the first time i've had to do this so I would really appreciate some advice on how I go about doing this. I.E Recommended hardward, best/cheapest VOIP providers for calls to Australia (call quality needs to be outstanding) and any other advice would be gratefully received.

If anyone can offer some advice that would be absolutely brilliant!!

Thanks,

CS

You could try www.mynetfone.com.au they are in in Australia and have some very good plans calls to Aussie mobiles are 20 cents a minute and to landlines 10 cents per call untimed.

For the last several years I have been using a service Freecall.com. The deal is you pay 15 โ‚ฌ and you get 90 days unlimited use to fixed lines to about 20 countries inc Aust. also To Hong Kong, United States and Puerto Rico mobiles for free. after 90 days it uses your 15 โ‚ฌ @ 0.020 A$ min. until it then runs out. Top up with another 15 โ‚ฌ and get another 90 free days.

Costs for Aust mobile conections are currently 0.181 A$ min. Free days don't apply to mobiles, with the exceptions as above.

As most of my calls are to fixed line #'s it works very well and very cheap for me. Quality is usually very good but if below par say "excuse me, bad line, I'll call you back". Costs nothing, just a slight inconvenience and usually fixes the problem first attempt.

If you want, please feel free to drop by and try it out. We are using the minimum package tt&t line so expect better with a faster connection. For location just google my avatar.

Cheers 'n' beers.

+1

I'm using mynetfone with a linksys 3102 ATA which is connected to a cheap $10 phone I picked up in BKK. With the DID they supply, people in your home state can call you for the cost of a local call and you can call them for ~10 cents untimed with no monthly fee.

Depending on how stable your Internet connection is, you wouldn't even know you're using voip... except a very small delay.

Hi Sportsman 69,

I really appreciate your response and would definitely be keen to pop by your office/home and have a look at your set up. I tried to google your avatar and couldn't find your address. Could you please email it to me through PM and I will then contact you to arrange a suitable time.

Once again, thanks for your response, I look forward to hearing from you again soon.

Childstar, you can contact members by private message (PM) and they can do the same to you.

Clicking on a member name will pull down a menu, and then you can choose "send message".

When someone sends you a message a little pop up window will inform you, and on the right top of the screen, next to controls you'll see 1 new message...

Hi Monty,

I did try to message direct to sportsman69 but got the following message in response:

This message can not be sent because the recipient has their personal messenger disabled or they are in a member group not allowed to use the personal messenger.

If you can offer any other advice on how to contact him, please let me know.

Thanks,
