Has anyone been to the new Tescos in Lamai yet?

Entering an exiting via the Ring Road* is chaotic at best. They had someone directing traffic yesterday, but only temporarily it would seem. I hate to say it, but I can see a fatality or serious injury in the very near future unless some proper traffic control measures are put in place. Be careful everyone.

* For the benefit of Mark Wolfe I am of course referring to the Ring Road which circles the Island, as opposed to the Lamai Beach Road that runs off the Ring Road through Lamai.

They should have people out there full time directing the traffic. It's ridiculous. Someone is definitely going to get hurt there soon I'm afraid...

People edging out of the entrance/exit in their trucks as bikes and trucks drive around them not letting them out. Not good.

Wake up what's the difference Lotus in Chaweng and Nathon exit onto ring road, Makro onto ring road, BigC exit onto ring road.

The difference John, is that Tesco in Nathon, is only Express, minimal traffic. As for Big C & Macro they exit on the wider flowing part of the ring road.As for Lamai, well it exits in the middle of the narowest part, in the middle of the business district, which is also compounded by the market traffic. So here you are, you have a major thouroughfare, bad enough as it is , being congested to breaking point.Had near misses through there before, I can only imagine what chances people will be taking now.

PS: Wait till the temple fair is on. :)

Problem solved waste some of the 900 million baht they were going to use for road repair and put stop lights. Talking of wasting money patching the ring now painting new road markings new footpaths no one walks any where. So it looks like the 900 million is for bandaids.

Want to see what your reaction is after the rainy season. In my opinion , the current administration has achieved a lot more , in it's time in office ,compared to all the others combined. Not easy to rectify 20 years worth of neglect in a blink of an eye.

Sometimes, it's nice to give credit when it's due. As for traffic lights, I would have thought the old admin would have made it compulsory for Tesco to install them.

New footpaths are not a band aid solution, they are long term, to stop people whining of their non existence & facilitate long term plans to asphalt the roads, you need them to make the drains work efficiently.

I do not think road markings , trying to explain to you where to ride, where to pass & not to pass are a waste of money, it's not a beautification process .

Traffic lights are a joke. The amount of idiots that run them or creep through them slowly is scary.

Someone positioned there full time directing the flow of traffic would be the safest option, in my opinion.

are you guys for serious? western expats really are the biggest wimpy moaners i've ever read on forums, traffic lights anyone?

I am just concerned about peoples safety as it is reasonably foreseeable that someone will in fact be seriously injured or killed at the entrance/exit to the new Tescos in Lamai. Unlike the Tescos in Chaweng, the road is way too narrow in Lamai and with the high volume of traffic entering and exiting the Tescos it will only be a matter of time before there has a serious accident. Does that make me a 'wimpy moaner'? I don't know, but according to you it does. If bringing my concerns to other members and telling them to be careful makes me a 'wimpy moaner', well I will happily wear that title on my sleeve.

I would however have thought a wimpy moaner would be more like someone who complains on the forum that 'mobile phones should not be allowed in gyms'. Oh wow, that was you wasn't it? I am of course referring to one of your earlier post on Thai visa. So we now know where your priorities lie. Well is comforting to know that at least I am not the only wimpy moaner on Samui. What a relief.

green = go for it

amber= speed up before it turns red

red= keep going, if you make it to the intersection, you can wait till you get by.
