bradda88
Hey, I lived near there on srinakarin rd(ban suanton). I loved it. If you speak thai you'll have no problems getting around there. Lots of little places to eat, some big seafood places, good somtom etc... bars on soi M near seacon square are fun. My mates and I would go to a lot of small dives on the side streets, fun as well. Once again I'll say that speaking thai is key out there. You won't run across to many other westerners except those like us who live there. Getting down town is depending on traffic anywhere from 1/2 hour - 2 hours. take the sky train from " on nutt" it is quicker. The central mall in bang na is ok, and food at carefour and foodland is on srinakarin rd near where I lived. good luck...
Nam Kao
Thanks Brad, Are there any short-time places around? Freelancers? -nam
Tarragona
Which part of Teparuk are you on? There are some decent pubs e.g. Baan Khon Thai at the Srinakharin intersection, Baan Chaliang at the Paknam end of Srinakharin. Wall-to-wall factory girls at the weekends if that's your cup of tea. As bradda88 says there are loads of little dives with working girls. Be very careful though. If you're hanging around the Seacon area, well that's Bangkok, not Samut Prakan. The tail of the Bangkok traffic jams is to be found at Teparuk, especially during term time.
honeyen
In fact there is quite a large expat community here (especially Japs), most of them live in the condominiums close to Central Bangna (East / North / South Tower, Bangna Complex) and majority work in T. Bangsaothong Industrial Park or Bangpoo Industrial Park. Nightlife, Girls : In addition to Srinikarin, there are a lot of local pubs / karaokes on Udomsuk Road too. I have seen quite a few in Theparak as well (my brother's factory is there), but I doubt if the girls could speak any English as I have never seen any farang there. Oh by the way, I personally find that the girls working in the above mentioned areas are much more good looking than those in Patpong or Soi Cowboy People : Nice people around, but mostly are of non-english speaking. Apartments near/on soi Teparuk : There are quite a few in Theparak area, but then again, I have never seen any farang living there (I've been to a few as some of my brother's staff live there). How far from BKK and Pattaya (driving times) : About 35km from Sathorn by using Bangna-Trad Road, takes about 20 mins without traffic. But... the traffic on Bangna-Trad sometimes just make you feel like rather staying home (my "highest record" - 3 hours from Central Bangna to the toll, which is about 4km from Central). Alternatively, you could use Outer Ring Road, farther, but the traffic is definitely better than Bangna-Trad. As for Pattaya, takes about 1.5 - 2 hours. Restaurants : Thai style, except those in shopping malls like Central, Carrefour, Big C. Good luck !!!

Quite a lot of farang in the area, in fact. Including my good self Rinrada too, I would guess? Edited March 27, 2005 by Tarragona
Rinrada
Only had a week on last visit so no time to check out the latest goings on in Sam.Prac. In fact I didnt even have time for a swim in the Condo block or check out the new poolside bar that I noticed was being refurbished on my last visit. I also seem to remember that they were rebuilding the sauna and doing some additional works to the fitness place....all those heavy weights give me a headach but wotever turns you on. We used to have a guy in the block who opened up with a sportsbar /pub but with the lack of western clients he lasted about a year and called it a day. Fraid it still is very much a Thai area and would agree with previous postings that not too many Non Ts around....but then that has its compensations...never get ripped off. Met some guys over the last couple of years who were working on contracts at the Bampoo Industrial Est.and on the new Airport...but as said ...very few. Wont be back in town for probabally a couple of months but if anyone wants to go for a Samut Prac.Excape Committee pub night.....
penzman
What about the smell from the tanning factories with their daily evening chemical discharge? Smells like a godzilla sized tomcat has sprayed all over town.
Rinrada
Yes,the place is just off the old Suk road at Banpoo.......maybe thats why they call it that.....house with smell Does hum a little bit but usually the wind is in the other direction. It also helps to nulify the "hom" from the croc factory ...such is life.

terdsak_12
I'm in Samut Prakan, in Baan Suan-ton same as that other guy, not a bad area! Foodland down the road, reasonable access to the expressway/motoway etc, traffic can be a hassle. Not much in the way of nightlife usless hanging round with drunk Thai lads shouting "Hey Yooo" is you thing.
Tarragona
If you want a bit more space you should go in and look at some of the moobans in the sois off Teparuk. You should be able to find townhouses that rent for about 3,000-4,000 baht a month.
EVO
On a salary of 240,000/month this guy aint gonna be looking at 400THB/month townhouses!! Im sure it will be the time of your life with that kinda money out there!!! Build yourself an Asian playboy mansion!
~G~
Samut Prakan... Well, I only know Wat Asokaram... A famous monastery with a special atmosphere. Not sure though that this is the kind of thing you're after...
Tarragona
On a salary of 240,000/month this guy aint gonna be looking at 400THB/month townhouses!! Hmm, must have missed a couple of messages last time I read through the thread. Some very nice upper-end moobans going up in the area, on Srinakharin and the Namdaeng and Bangplee areas. Check those out. Edited March 28, 2005 by Tarragona
Boon Mee
If they ever get that new bridge finished it might be an easier place to get to. That danm car-ferry line-up at "rush hour" is too much for me...
Nam Kao
Do they have ST hotels in the area like downtown Suk? I could open 2 apartments, one to live in, one to entertain "guests" I am not going to go too crazy, i hope to bank half. 4,000 for a townhose is ###### cheap! Nice. thanks again for all the help. I got a good Thai friend I am trying to hire for a driver, translator, TG Procurement specialist etc -nam
Boon Mee
Just try to get to the Phrapradaeng area of Samut Prakan during "rush hour" via the car ferry...
bradda88
Check out the DC palace near carefour on srinakarin for "short" times. It's a mia noi hotel with a few floors of interesting things to do. I agree with most of whats been said here.It should be a fun place but it is very "Thai" and things are done in that style. I would stick with the small places as I found them to be great fun.My friends and I would be the only westerners but that was a nice change from the downtown thing. Beware of mafia types in DC palace. They are nice and friendly but when drunk they can be a bit much. Go and explore... you'll find it all. cheers, bradda
