Extension Of Visa Upon Arrival

Featured Replies

I arrived three weeks ago on a standard permit to stay for 30 days, and now want to extend my stay ideally by a month, but as far as I can see I'm then going to have to go to Laos, or another nearby country to apply for a tourist visa.

I've looked for some clarification on the site, but just wanted to make sure I'm right about this. If apply to extend in BKK I will only get a max ofm 15 days, and if I do a border run I will still only get 15 days if I'm not entering via an airport.

I'm trying to work out the cheapest way to extend my stay and not have to make a trip by air is possible.

I will most likely leave in less than a month, but would like another 30 days if possible.

Sage advice much appreciated.

No more possibilitys.

Extend in Immigration, I think = 15 days, or they change that limit also already? 1.900.- B.

Go to a landborder, exit, come back = 15 days

Come back by air, = 30 days Check www.airasia.com has sometime good deals, go somewhere nearby and come back=30 days

Overstay is 500 B. a day

Mix an Immigration visit or landborder entry with an Overstay = 500 B. a day

and the chance of bigger problems if you have a Passportcontrol during the Overstay.

Have a nice holyday

You arrived here on 30 day ‘visa exempt’ entry, which is not a visa. The maximum extension you can get from immigration on your permission to stay is 7 days, but is likely to require sight of ticket out of the country, so will not work for you unless you choose to fly. But if you were to fly out/in I would just get new 30 day visa exempt entry on arrival, skip the extension and save the 1900 baht fee.

If you do a border run using land crossings you will get 15 day permission to stay on each entry, so could do 2 back to back crossings to give you an extra 30 days. Alternatively obtain a tourist visa. Is up to you.

Thanks guys. I think I'll just do two visa runs for 15 days, so to two different places and think about it as a day trip!

You can go out at the same immigration checkpoint if you wanted to, but I guess you will probably want to travel.

Your choices are:

1) fly out and back get you 30 days.

2) do a boarder run two times

3) Get a tourist visa, this can save you an extra boarder run.
