Hi guys I'll be coming to Thailand in December to get married and apply for a settlement visa for my new wife back to the uk.

Now I have just extended my lenght of stay as I thought we wouldn't have enough honeymoon time together after the wedding before getting down to the visa stuff in Bangkok, but I have now noticed that I will now be in Thailand for 31 days 1 day longer than you get without applying for a different visa.

So my question is will the 1 day make any difference(actually it would be about 8 hours)?

Should I apply for a visa extension?

Or should I just leave it and worry about it when leaving immigration.

Cheers James.

Why not just go to Thai embassy in your country and get a longer visa there, that way if you stay longer than 30 days no problem...just a thought. :)

Your problem is not so much the overstay (day of arrival is counted as day 1, so maybe the count is actually 32 days), but the fact that your airline may not let you fly to Thailand without having either a return ticket out of the country within 30 days of arrival to use 'visa exempt' entry or being in possession of a valid visa. Your best bet is to apply for a tourist visa at Hull consulate (if in UK) which will give you a 60 day stay, allow flexibility in your itinerary and overcome any check-in difficulties. They are currently free until 4th March 2010, but there is a small handling charge. You should get your passport/visa back within a few days.

Thanks for that I will speak to Hull on Monday and find out what they say but looks like very little hassle to get 60 day tv,

anyway looking at my dates again I think I could be only 29 days I arrive 22nd dec and leave 20th Jan,

but better to be safe than sorry.

I make your dates 30 days (have to count 22nd Dec as a day and 20th Jan as a day), so you could go the 'visa exempt' route with ticket out of the country. You can obtain 7 day extension at immigration in Thailand, fee 1900 baht, if you needed a bit more time here. Or simply just get a tourist visa. You can apply by post. Is up yo you.
