Dear all,

the 4th November I will quit my job and the 14th I will start to attend a MBA in a Thai University.

Right now I have a Work Permit and an 1 year extension of my Business Visa. I would like to have an ED Visa without going out the country. Is it possible?

Thanks

Your extension of stay will terminate on your last day of working and you must leave the country that day (or obtain 7 day extension from immigration). Your employer should give you a letter to take to immigration which will cancel your extension. You will need to obtain Non-ED visa from embassy/consulate in neighbouring country. You will get 90 day permission to stay on entry which can be extended at immigration depending upon your studies.

So if I'm not wrong, I must go the immigration and give the quit letter of my company so they will cancel my extension. What about my work permit? When and who should I give it back to? The last question is: can I have the ED visa at the border with Cambodia?

Thanks a lot for your help.

Some labour offices ask for the WP back, others don't. Your employer will write a separate letter to the labour office anyway advising termination of your employment so the WP can be cancelled. If your employer asks for the WP back then let them have it so they can return it.

New ED visa - you cannot obtain at the border. They are issued by embassy/consulate in neighbouring country. Vientianne would be a good place to go. Phnom Penh is 2 days to issue unless pay for express service. You will need to take with you a letter from the school confirming your course enrolment.
