Leg of lab with lots of garlic and rosemary.

Personally, I find lab a bit tough, and prefer poodle or schnauzer. :)

Sorry, couldn't resist.

The meal does look nicely done.

Luv them avocados.

Leg of lab with lots of garlic and rosemary. Home made taziki and salad with feta cheese....hmmm. Home cooking is fun.

Hi,

Mmmm, home cookin'; your food really looks scrumptious! It's raining here in Pattaya today, not much to do. What more can I say...?

Actually, a buddy of mine (another Yank) called earlier to tell me he'd seen your "totally-tantalizing post." He was focused & committed; not much Greek food 'round here, ya' know. There was a kind of dream-like quality to his voice as he talked... to the best of my recollection, this is what he said:

"...Hey, Bud- did you see that lamb? And that salad? And the sauce? Yeah, well, great news: After a brief and heated, yet ultimately very, very productive discussion, my TGF has just now departed for the Jomtien bus station, where she will catch the next Bankok-bound bus, regardless of cost or risk to personal safety..."

Her instructions:

"Find Khun Sorenson & locate the BFGD recipe. Do not, under any circumstances, return to Pattaya without full knowledge and ability to reproduce His Big Fat Greek Dinner... As usual, should any member of your IM (Impossible Meals) force be caught or killed, the secretary will disavow any knowlege of your actions. Failure is not an option. Chok di, Tirak..."

And then his voice was gone...

And the phone started smoking...

:)

Michael, very good and funny post. I better go and hide at the local burger joint until your taste buds have settled down again.

It is also raining in Bangkok right now, so good thing we have TV and home cooking... :D

Hi, again!

Ok to stop hiding now- I was only kidding (phut len, krap!)...

I hope the almighty moderators will forgive this, but I am passing along to you a Greek recipe that I posted a couple of weeks ago in response to another farang's lament that he can't find any good Greek food 'round here. This recipe is really good; really easy to prepare; AND my TGF thought it was great (very important, 'ya know!)!! Please lemme know if you try it and what you think:

GYROS & TZATZIKI SAUCE-

TZATZIKI

GYROS

  • 1/2 lb Ground lamb
  • 1/2 lb Ground beef
  • 2 slices of Bread (I use multi-grain)
  • 2 tbs Fresh parsley; chopped
  • 5 Garlic clove; minced
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 1/2 tsp Ground Pepper
  • 1/2 tsp Ground Oregano
  • 3/4 tsp Ground Cumin
  • 3/4 tsp Ground Rosemary
  • 1 Egg; beaten
  • 6 Pita-bread rounds
  • 6 Green onions
  • 12 Greek, green or black olives
  • Chopped tomatoes
  • Sliced avocados

TZATZIKI- In a bowl, combine oil, vinegar, sugar and salt. Whisk or blender until smooth. Stir in yogurt (best to drain first), cucumber, garlic, dill & parsley. Refrigerate 4 hours-overnight before serving.

GYROS- Combine lamb and beef in a bowl. Tear bread slices in pieces. Place in a blender or food processor. Process to uniform crumbs. Add bread crumbs, parsley, garlic, salt, pepper, oregano, cumin and rosemary to meat mixture. Add egg and mix all ingredients together by hand.

Preheat oven to 375~. Form meat into torpedoes or oval patties, about 4" long. Bake until brown. Warm pita bread in oven as meat finishes cooking.

After meat cools, slice & roll into pita bread to make Gyros sandwich. Add: Tzatziki sauce, sliced scallions, chopped tomatoes, chopped olives, avocado!

The Gyros really sound great, I will have to try that. It also sound like it will go well with a few Ouzo's.. :)

The Taziki is a bit more complex to make than descriped above. If anybody want to give it a try, make sure you drain the yogurt and dehydrate the cucumbers with a bit of salt for a few hours. I would go a bit easy on the olive oil and add some more garlic, but that is just my taste.
