I have a 1 year business visa and my first 90-days visa stamp expired a few days ago. I don't feel much like doing a borderrun by bus so i like to buy a cheap flightticket out of BKK, return pref. the same day.

I found a rounddtrip to Penang for 4199THB on airasia.com. They fly twice daily to Penang.

Is a roundtrip to Penang the cheapest available? Or is there anything cheaper?

Will the overstay affect my business visa? Or do i just have to pay 7 days overstay at the airport, 3500 THB and they let me go?

What happens if the police checks my passport today and find out i'm on overstay?

You will have to pay the overstay fine at the airport and your passport will be marked. It will not affect your current visa, or your ability to obtain another visa. If you get stopped by the police before you get to the airport you are likely to be detained.

Sorry that this is a bit off the original subject, but " what happens if I get stopped by the police................"

How many people actually carry their passport with them. I have lived here for 14 years, never carry passport, it is in the safe in my house and never been asked to produce it only by hotels, I just give them a photocopy and they are happy with that.

Has any one been stopped to show passport?

The number of passports lost or stolen would reach historic proportions if this rule were to be strictly observed. Embassies would need to offer 24 hr. service. I know. I work in one.

They are busy enough dealing with thefts from drunken revellers who suddenly find themselves without cash or cards.

Carrying a passport constantly, is a massive security risk in many ways, with all sorts of implications. Photocopy or I/D is a good compromise.

Re: Cheap flights. The one you have sounds about right. Are you unable to stay in Cambodia a bit longer? Worth a little look around.

Overstay? Just pay the man at the airport.

Alright, so i just have to go to passport control and say, i have 7 days overstay i'd like to pay the fine.

I'm going to Penang, that's in Malaysia. :) . For my next borderrun i'm planning to go to Cambodia and stay a few days.

You know, since i'm watching "tourist trouble in thailand" i get nervous every time i see a police officer. I don't want to end up in a Thai jail and be treated like a criminal just because i stayed a few days longer than permitted.

If a police officer asks me for my passport, i think i'll take my chances and sprint off. Hope piggy can't run lol.

Well that was easy. The immigration officer at the passport control asked me to follow another officer to a desk, i was asked to pay 3500 thb and 1 minute later i was on my way to Penang. I didn't get any red stamp or whatever in my passport. Just a little blue stamp in Thai stating i paid 3500 thb.

The officer was very friendly.

My experience in Penang was shitty. I've never met any grumpier airport personel than in Penang. Especially the muslim lady employees never seem to smile or joke.

At passport control i said hello, no hello back, nice... I asked her a question.... no reply...

After the passport check i went to the toilets but mistaken the ladies toilet with the men's toilet. So i opened the door and this muslim cleaning lady went totally berserk on me. What are you doing! Get out! police police! If that happened in Thailand they would just joke, haha farang bah men's toilet is over there.

I bought a taxi ticket inside the airport to Queensbay mall and asked the muslim lady where i could find the taxi's and if they have taximeter in Penang. "no, go outside", ignoring me.
