Drobo In Thailand?

Featured Replies

Has anyone seen these rather clever devices in thailand http://www.drobo.com/products/ ?

Prices compared with overseas sellers?

I like the ability to add/change drives without backup and rebuild :)

Whilst unRAID http://www.lime-technology.com/joomla/home provides similar facilities, it's somewhat more complex to configure and by the time I've built a box for it to run on I might as well have bought a Drobo :D

I like the idea of the unRAID, BUT if I have to have a box on 24/7 as a server then it might as well do other useful things like manage torrents or rip DVD's which can be very time consuming and use up valuable CPU cycles on my main machine.

Many dedicated NAS devices that offer various forms of RAID let you also use them for torrent or other similar tasks that need to be on but unattended.

In addition I have another less common problem in that my Internet connection from CAT is via a USB dongle and if I want to share it with other devices in the house then I need a PC with Internet connection sharing.

I know that there are wireless routers that will host the CAT USB dongle but they are prohibitively expensive at about 12K Baht, especially when I already ave numerous wireless routers and switches laying around.

This is why I have recently just gone for a Ubuntu box as a server which has cost me less than 4,000naht (excluding drives) and will do all I want, in addition to being remotely monitored when I am outside Thailand.

Little bump as i was told about this product and i am quite interested in it...

with my desk at home begining to look like a External HDD factory, its time to find a more robust and tidier solution...

i like the idea of a device that can manage torrent downloads, what alternatives are there? Anyone seen the Drobo's advertised/for sale in Thailand yet?

Drobo is not being distributed in Thailand (yet).

So if you find it in a shop they have probably imported it themselves. Some shops in Pantip do this with certain brands which are not sold in Thailand, so might be possible to find there.

Looks like just what i need.. would add a lot of safety if i have something like that.

Has anyone seen this in Thailand ? Im seriously considering this because it would give me a peace of mind with my data. If not ill have to buy it and let my father or mother send it to thailand.

Its looking like its not available in Thailand right now, so if you have an option to buy overseas and reship it to TH, i'd go with that option

I have that option.. i let it be send to my parents and then they send it to Thailand. Its not a major problem. I will however get extra tax on it. But before i do it i might go to pantip i saw something like this in one of the shops on the highest floor (might have been something different)
