Tourism Authority Responds To Complaints From Indian Tourists.

Featured Replies

Pattaya, October 13 [PATTAYA ONE NEWS] : The Tourism Authority of Thailand Region 3, which covers the Pattaya area, recently received complaints from authorities in India regarding the treatment of Indian Tourists who come to Pattaya by some business operators and their staff. These complaints are being treated very seriously as the Tourism Authority are specifically targeting Indian Tourists in their current campaigns to attract more foreign Tourists to the Kingdom. They are also concerned about local criminals who are targeting Indian Tourists who appear to be easy targets for them. Efforts are now being made to rectify these problems in time for the next High Season and it is expected that Indian’s will make up a large proportion of foreign tourists who come to Thailand within the next 6 months. There are some who have criticized the Tourism Authority for not consulting business operators prior to the recent campaigns which may have resolved problems before they occurred. Here in Pattaya further consultations are expected to take place involving businesses and local Police Divisions including the Tourist Police who will be asked to identify and arrest those criminals who are targeting Indian Tourists.

Similar things have been happening here in Oz where the Indian authorities have been concerned that Indian Students are being unfairly treated and the Australian Government have taken steps to remedy/pacify the situation.

thailand needs the indian tourists, and the asian market to replace the decline in tourists from traditional europe,UK,and USA.So i hope the TAT are successful in addressing these problems.

In Oz the Indian students are getting into trouble by flashing expensive phone and computers while living tin the "cheaper" parts of town and wondering why they become targets. They call it racism in fact it is a lack of common sense, not dissimilar to what happens in Pattaya when you show off wealth. Common sense is not that common it would appear.

Mind you, Thailand has yet to embrace the concept of political correctness and is not beyond showing overt racism to anyone they do not like. Many of us have encountered it.

I read a thread yesterday where 2 Indian tourists were robbed while "having fun" with 2 kathoeys. They had about 80,000 baht, (in Baht, Rupees and $US), taken from their pockets. I'm not saying they deserve to have lost their holiday money, but it's pretty stupid to go out with that much cash in your pocket anywhere in the world.
