djeetyet
I am an American citizen and have some questions about getting a passport and Social Security card for my son born "out of wedlock" to my Thai girlfriend. I searched the forum's message board and didn't find what I was looking for - if there's a thread I missed please post a link, or other Web sites covering my concerns. I emailed the Bangkok U.S. embassy with my questions but did not receive a reply. 1. Can your recommend somewhere in the Rayong or Chanthaburi area to have the Thai Birth Certificate translated? 2. I was told to bring in photos to prove "a blood relationship between the applicant and the father is established by clear and convincing evidence" - what kind of photos did you use? Did they want the father to be in all the photos? 3. Regarding Consular Report of Birth line #12, "Precise Periods of Physical Presence in United States" I lived more than 40 years in the States, but traveled in and out numerous times - did you attach a separate document? 4. Any general hints/suggestions/pitfalls/gotcha's I should be aware of when applying for a passport and SS card for my son. I would like to complete this process in one appearance as I live quite far from Bangkok. Thanks for your help.
Jimjim
I think the birth certificate would be the key item.
Redhawk
......as told above birth certificate is the key item but this must be translated first by a certified and recognized translator by the US embassy as you are the father, you name is held within, with this one you do have to apply for a paternity certicate at your embassy obtained that, you should be entitled to apply for a passport to your son. Pictures of your son should accompany. In person father, mother and son. This states it quite clear... http://bangkok.usembassy.gov/service/birth...n-thailand.html http://travel.state.gov/law/info/info_609.html Translation Offices: http://bangkok.usembassy.gov/root/pdfs/tra...otographers.pdf
djeetyet
Thanks for the above responses. Anybody else who has gone through this process? What photos did you bring in? And what about Consular Report of Birth line #12, "Precise Periods of Physical Presence in United States" - how did you fill out the form? Good/bad stories? Done in one day, or had to return a few times? Thanks again, New Daddy
