Alcohol sales Are Banned Near School ?

Hi,

I stayed near Khon Kaen University for a while.

Pubs near KKU bombarded the nearby area with noise every night.

One of my thai friends told me that ,according to his KKU teacher, Alcohol sales is illegal not only in school but also some areas near school, but nobody cares.....

Does anyone know if Alcohol　sales are banned in certaion areas near school ?

Interesting first post MW. A couple of things come to mind. Number one - loud music is not banned near schools I believe. Number two, I would suggest asking your local KK authority as to the rules in KK. Number three. Assuming it was Uni students partying it up with the music, I will go out on a limb and say they may be over the legal age to consume alcohol?

But I did recall reading somewhere that selling alcohol within certain distances to schools / wats in Bangkok was not allowed.

A 'nearby area' at KKU, if not actually on the uni grounds, would be pretty far from where students live or study on campus. I don't think that would apply in that case.

I think it applies to primary, secondary and high schools where it's not unusual for businesses to be close to the schools.

In most cases, there's a big difference between a primary student and a uni student.

There are bans on a number of things. Alcohol-schools, alcohol-temples, GamesRooms-Schools etc. As far as I remember it was like 200m. There was not a total ban on zones, just how many paces more one has to travel to find the desired vice!!
