I travel with EVA, at Heathrow Airport EVA do charge for excess weight, it is quite expensive to exceed the weight entitlement. Have a good trip... :)

I don't know what the carry on limit is for EVA, but I flew from San Francisco on Singapore Air and the carry on limit for them was 7 KG. I noted that there were three airlines flying to Asia, Cathay Pacific and another one and they also had a 7 KG limit. They were also very, very pedantic about it. A lot of people were sent out of the line to re-pack their carry on.

Then, at the boarding gate, they were re-weighing carry on luggage and if it was over, they were making people check it through. So make sure your carry on contains only what you need and don't buy something in duty free that will put it over.

Best of luck.

I'm flying Cathay Pacific from the UK to LoS in a couple of weeks. Their website says that you're allowed 7kg of carry-on. It also says that you're separately allowed a briefcase of 4kg and a laptop and accessories of 4kg so, in theory, you can walk onboard with 15kg of kit.

A good reason not to travel with Eva.

Restricting carry on weight is a good idea, on a trip a few years ago this little old lady had a bag so heavy it took her and a flight attendant to get it in over head. I am setting there watching them and hoping that the thing doesn't come flying out of there if we hit rough weather.

best way to have carry on is in a backpack and wear it at checkin. If you dont look like you are struggling under the weight, nothing will be said.

When I was working, I was flying every week from Swampy with Thai, Bangkok Airways, Cathay, Singapore or Vietnam airlines, all coach class and regularly manager 12-15kg in my backpack, no questions asked.

Only problem is when there is a very small plane with tiny lockers, like the old PB jets.

My sister-in-law and family flew Eva LHR-BKK last December, and reported that they were very hot on weight, compared to their usual happy experience with Thai. So this year they are flying Thai instead of Eva.

On a separate point, surely Duty-Free purchases are normally extra to your hand-baggage allowance ? In which case, don't pack your D/F books/sweets/drink into your carry-on bag until after reaching the gate, surely that would be OK ?

Have a good flight ! :)

If one is overweight, then you have a point.

However, for those of us that have had to suffer the passengers that bring in bags that don't fit or that are overweight, it is a reason to fly EVA as it makes the flight less of a nightmare. Wait until one of those overweight bags falls out of the storage bin and hits you. (It happens in heavy turbulence.) Or wait until the jerk with the too big bag tries to shove it under the seat and it ends up pouring over into your space. Or wait until the passengers struggling with the big bags hold up embarking/disembarking.

My wife is the sort of passenger you all dread. We brought rocks back from a spainish beach on our last holiday. Before I had to carry a sack full of Tele-tubbies over to Thailand then return with "landy-finger"bananas and "ballat"I wonder what I'm going to have to carry back this time??? :)

I called EVA earlier in the year, Feb/March time I think it was, to see what their overweight luggage charge was. I believe from memory it was 24 quid a kilo!!

I did find this online review that may be of interest, although please note it's a couple of years old.

Also the second from last review on this page confirms the type of charges you can expect.

There are signs at my local beach in Scotland warning of fines for removing the pebbles and rocks. Not at all eco friendly. :D

1 piece 20kgs and 1 piece carry on 7 kgs max. Very strict. From the U.S. its 2 pieces 20kgs each.

Plus the 4kg briefcase and the 4kg laptop which is mentioned on their own website.

I arrived early to check in for an Eva Air ams/bkk flight at schiphol airport and as the check in staff were late, as usual,

I had time to weigh my own bags. Unfortunately I had 40 kg so I started to pray that I would get a kind person to check

me in. Well I obviously prayed to the wrong god because I got the check in staff from hel_l. First I was told that having my

return flight in writing and not printed was not good enough. So I had go to Eva ticket desk and get them to print it.

Then said I could not fly as I didn't have a visa and my flight back was in 31 days. It took a telephone call to a superior

for her to admit I didn't need the visa as I landed in Thailand the next day and thus I was only in Thailand for thirty days.

I knew I wasn't going to get away with the excess luggage. For the first time she smiled. "Oh you are 20 kg overweight".

I replied that as a silver eva card holder, 30 kg allowance, I was only 10 kg over and asked how much it was going to be.

The delight on her face as she answered, "a lot", was too much for me to take. No way did I want to give this witch any

of my money. I told her I was off to rearrange my baggage. I left the check in area with her shouting to her collegues that

they must remember my face and make sure I was charged for excess weight. Luckily I knew that a small rucsack of mine

was 7kg and in my main bag there was some beer that wasn't worth paying the excess for. I put the rucsack in a locker

and returned to check in where my bags now magically weighed 30 kg. I then picked up the rucsack and went through

immigration to duty free. I bought a small gift and asked for the biggest bag they had as I was going to buy lots of things

and didn't want to end up with lots of plastic. I repeated this in another shop and then put my rucsack in the two bags.

When I went to board the plane it looked like I only had my computer bag and duty free. The wicked witch was there checking

tickets as we went to board the plane and I'm sure I could see her wondering how I'd got rid of 10 kg of luggage.
