Hi,

I am 30yo man from Pakistan.

Im going on my 1st visit to thailand from 19th to 24th of Nov-09 and kinda confused on how to make the most out of this short trip. Googling has been of no use at all:).

I hope to find a travel buddy who can join me and have fun on this rollercoaster trip.

Cheers...

Obviously one should be cautious in traveling with someone who you do not know well. I certainly would not share the same room with them. Of course, the best would be someone who speaks fluent Thai as well as English. Not easy to find in a short time. Good luck.

I would suggest just doing it on your own. You can ask questions here about the standard things such as cost of rooms, what meals to eat, transportation etc.

There are many pitfalls in traveling with someone you don't know VERY WELL. The most obvious is honesty. You could never be certain about a stranger you've just met being honest. The most common problem is choice of things you enjoy. One person wants to drink and party while the other wants to see the sights. I once traveled to Ankor Wat with two fellows who were more interested in drinking and going to nightclubs than seeing the temple. I got one half day at the temple and then followed behind the other guys because we needed to stay together. I would have been better off just splitting up and going on my own.

Give us a general idea what you might like to do and then ask more questions. The people on Thaivisa are pretty helpful when you separate all the negative folks who want to belittle everything anyone says.

On the short trip you have planned I suggest seeing the main sites of Thailand and then come back at a later date to the places you enjoyed the most. I would suggest at least 3 or 4 days in Bangkok to see the King's Palace and a longtail boat trip on the river to visit the Temple of Dawn (Wat Arun). I would also suggest a day trip up to Ayutthaya and visit one of the most famous old ruins in Thailand.

From there I would go down to Krabi and spend some time on the beaches of Ao Nang. I found Krabi more reasonable for cost than Phuket which is mostly over priced.

One thing to keep in mind is to stay away from the bar scene until you've seen the main sites of Thailand. It is too easy to get sucked into the bar scene with all the pretty ladies. But, if that is all you want then just go to Pattaya and forget the rest of Thailand. You won't need any advice from those here... other than don't get hooked into falling in love.

Hey Ian,

Thanks a bundle for such a comprehensive response. How I wana spend these 5 nights ?. well half of the time I would love to visit historical ancient places and half of the team partying. You're spot on about travelling with some stranger and trusting a stranger is simply out of question. But having said that, there are still lot of good people around. yup there are risks but again, that how the life is:)

Anyway, let's see if I do find a travel buddy;)

cheers

Ditto what Ian said. Bangkok then Krabi (Aonang). Forget a travel buddy unless you know them...too many scammers afoot these days.

Check out agoda.com for booking accomodation...good prices these days.

Have a good trip and play safe mate.

...condolences for the <deleted> going on in your country at the moment.

If I were a mod. I'd delete woots account straight away. Obviously just an account created to stir up shit with pointless comments. woot = Sad loser.

Every time I use agoda to book hotels. It's reliable.

I suggest u to go similan island, u can fly to phuket, that's the nearest.

Similan is the most beautiful island in thailand, and it only opens half a year. Luckily, it will stay open when u come

I am a mod and I did, along with all the posts that quoted it and a stern warning to Mr. (or Mrs. for that matter) woot.

Racist remarks are not tolerated on thaivisa. Instead of quoting an offensive post, please use the report button and we send in our SWAT team. :)

@HappyThaiLife: thanks for the advice. Things in here are tough but still its quite liveable and I hope we'll fight through it very soon.

@tangqian86: Mostly people would talk about Phuket or Pattaya, but Similian & Krabi seem even better. I think I'll go there.

@bkkmick & raro: I couldnt see what woot said but THANKS guys for acting on something that is not acceptable to any of us.

Cheers

Similan is the best for snorkling and diving, the bungalows there are really bad (the beds) and there is only electricity for part of the day and just 1 restaurant. For me that was ok because i loved it there.
