saw 10 years after play a disappointing set in Berkeley, early 70s...disappointing because I coulda used the 6 bucks entrance for some wine instead...30 minute set and Alvin Lee cut loose with goin' home; the bass player was high voltage...didn't stop vibrating even after the music stopped...

First concert was Hawkwind 1976 at Southampton Gaumont as an impressionable 16 year old.

Became an avid fan and embarked on gaining an extensive collection of records and then CDs of theirs on which I made a small fortune selling on eBay before my move to Thailand.

I have a two week trip to the UK at the end of November and have just found out that they will be touring UK a week after my return to Thailand....gutted.

A tour by Hawkwind of Thailand with a gig in Kanchanaburi during the "Light & Sound" festival would be nice.

First Concert -> The Kinks, think it was 1981 @ Crapital Centre in DC

Most Memorable -> My Bloody Valentine, Loveless tour @ Hammerjacks in Baltimore OR The Allman Brothers @ Meriweather Post Pavillion (good show but the reason i remember it was because one of the girls i worked with brought a date who happened to be on "america's most wanted" the next week)

Would like to see in Thailand > Paul McCartney, I have never seen him live.

The first was in (1983-4?) a little known Canadian band, The Pursuit of Happiness.

The best (and loudest) was seeing the Ramones during their final tour. The day I saw them was the anniversary of their first live gig, so they rocked out!

The most surprising was Green Day during a summer festival in (1995-6?). I disliked them before I saw them live. I always felt they were a little too poseur, but seeing them live changed my mind.

For what band to come here, if it could be any band, I'd choose the Smiths (biggest regret that I never got to see them together live). Of actual, possible bands, I'd like to see Muse re-schedule their canceled show of a couple years ago.

sure would be nice if there was a small blues club venue in BKK (sorry, dave; can't make it to Patters as the kids get car sick all that way from Suphan...) but, you would haveta be allowed to smoke tobacco...and there would haveta be a suitable atmosphere of menace from volatile performers on drugs and carrying weapons...

I'm serious; the blues needs a suitable venue...large concert venues can't do it... :)

Queen at Leeds Uni, when the song Seven sees of rai just hit the radio. pretty cool for a first gig huh

most memorable, virtually all Rush concerts but one at the Stafford Bingley Hall in the UK on the Hemispheres tour really stands out. i can still remember details from 25 years ago. nothing will ever come close to that again in my life i think.

i'd love to see Rush in BKK but doubt it will ever happen. the next best thing is Dream Theatre who i've seen here twice already.

A blues club ain't a blues club without the smoke.

Used to be a great blues club out the back of the Angel pub in Godalming (southeast UK) that saw some memorable performances though many of the bands weren't exactly blues bands. Jethro Tull played there two weeks running but if the booked band didn't turn up there was always the local bunch called Brewers Droop who use to play not for money but for cases of Newcastle Brown, hence the name. In fact everybody there drank Newcastle Brown even the women :) although in recognition of them being the fairer sex they were offered the alternative of Newcastle Amber.

Its a bit of a blur but first may have been Leppelin & The Beach Boys at Knebworth. Vaguely remember jumping over fires/drinking whiskey & smoking strange stuff to Stairway to Devon.

Best, not sure Peter Gabriel/The Eagles/ELO/Wings

Who would I have liked to see... I regret going to work one day with my Dad in the late 70's when a bunch of 'longhaired gits' were playing on the roof nextdoor to his shop in Saville Row, DOH!

Dave

p.s. Mossfinn, I used to go to Blazes in Windsor Too! Plenty of ladies there all looking for a soldier :)

last time I was 'home' in CA in 1999 couldn't believe that there was no smoking allowed...was at a club in Sacto and hadta go outside; also had the Copenhagen goin'...people kept on rockin', though...was also in SC and the Catalyst was closed... :)

spent sum time up in N'castle a couple of years before and couldn't believe that there was no draft N'castle Brown Ale; only available in boddles..that's one great town, btw...if not only for the train stop in Durham with the view of the castle and the cathedral...the most dramatic I've seen anywhere.. :D

This is making me feel so very very old.

First concert was in Bristol...Johnny Ray in 1956 I guess. I could hear the screams from the Colston Hall a mile away.

Most memorial......Demis Rousos..Bristol Colston Hall again. A quite amazing voice and atmosphere...after the concert he tried to pick up one of my neices...her father soon stopped that !

Who in Thailand? No one realy...Elvis is gone :)

one of the most remarkable performances was when an oil worker got up from the audience in a bar in Abu Dhabi, strapped on the Gibson double cutaway from a band member and whaled on The Thrill is Gone. He coulda been ol' BB hisself. When he sat down at the bar I asked did he ever perform professionally he said yeah, but the money was no good... :)

just watched parts of Woodstock with the 70 y.o. MiL featuring Joe Cocker, Alvin Lee, Jimi and Janis and as we were sitting together on the sofa could feel her moving to the music...the wife said that she was a singer in her yoof...

earlier at 6am I saw her in the back of a pickup marshaling family and associates for work in the fields; that lady doesn't stop...my wife is a lot more conservative than her and doesn't understand western music...

oh, the power...

Wow. Seems to be a lot of ex Santa Cruzans here. Count me among them.

!st concert: Golden Earring, Robin Trower, Sha Na Na (weird combo of acts on the bill, which was par for the course at Bill Graham shows) at Winterland in SF.

At Catalyst: Outlaws, Doobie Bros. ( before hit big) Huey Lewis ( called the Sport Pages when he was trying out new stuff), Johnny Winter, Rick Derringer, George Thoroughgood.

Catalyst had good acts.

In Thailand: Jimmy Buffet - I am a longtime parrothead

First was Dave Matthews in Mountain View, California. Also the most memorable, I was high from that concert for weeks after I went. About a year later there was a recruiter at my university seeking to hire security guards for concerts. I thought I had died and gone to heaven. I signed up and got to see concerts nearly every weekend and got paid for it. Coincidentally I worked two Dave Matthews concerts later where I got to meet him both times, once where I was assigned to check passes at his dressing room door and the next where I was assigned to guard the exit door for him exiting the building, and escorting him onto the bus. He remembered me and was a real real nice guy. Also the person who I would like to see come to Thailand - along with Jack Johnson, who I have seen in concert over 10 times now. Great performer.

First, Mungo Jerry at the City University, London.

Second was Free's final performance at the Royal Albert Hall.

Best: difficult. Either Genesis at Drury Lane (with Peter Gabriel) or 10cc at Hemmersmith Odeon: I was surprised how good it was.

Worst: Choice of three: Robert Cray at Shepherds Bush. Lost all his bite, audience talking all the way through as it was so boring; Yes, Tales of the Topographic Oceans tour before the album was released. You had to listen to a Yes album a dozen times to appreciate it! Shabba Ranks at Brixton: riots, a shooting, a dreadful unrehearsed performance.

Loudest, Wishbone Ash at the Marquee. They played a on-off and used the same equipment they would normally use for a venue many many times bigger.

In Thailand? When was the last time anybody decent played a gig here? Jimmy Buffett, though I was lucky enough to see him in London earlier this year, my first Buffett gig and at a much smaller venue than he would play in the USA.

Cat Mother and the All-Night Newsboys ?? How do you know them? They were actually among the founders of the first 2 years Woodstock Sound-Out Festival in Woodstock, NY -- the third was the BIG 1969 Woodstock Festival in Bethel, NY that everyone knows.

We all camped out in the natural amphitheater of the Pan Farm location... ate lunch and went swimming with the musicians. Cat Mother opened for THE BAND on their first tour after the Brown Album... then, after Larry Packer left, faded away.
