Greetings TV

I'm looking for a chain-drive to belt-drive conversion kit for a Honda Steed 400 in Thailand or elsewhere in Asia. From what I've read, conversion kits for the VLX600 Shadow/VT600 Steed are compatible. My resources being the Internetseses, I could be mistaken. The only source I've found is a place called Scootworks in North Carolina (that's in the US, for the rest of the world :) ).

Product listing for Honda VLX 600 Shadow conversion kit/parts (no mention of Steed): http://www.shopscootworks.com/productdetai...;catalogId=-799

Misc product listing that includes conversion kit/parts for "S Series" VLX 600 Shadow & VT 600 Steed: http://www.scootworks.com/shop.cgi/page=pa...1256453169.9327

<deleted> is "S Series"? I didn't realize there was an "S Series" Shadow. Am I that poorly informed?

If this had an Experts Exchange style reward system, I'd award extra points to the one who could tell me where to go for this in Chiang mai.

Thanks in advance.

C

Edit: Just confirmed that VLX 400, VLX 600, VT 400, VT 600 use the same drive system, so a kit for any one will do.

Chiang Mai post office [....] best option really :)

Not quite what I meant, but that'll get you +100 Smartass Points! They're worth twice as much as Helpful Points, actually.

I didn't think to check into Richco. Don't they deal exclusively with Harleys? Guess it wouldn't hurt to shoot them an e-mail.

Dunno but worth a try. very often what does for HD can do for 'lesser' brands. Try Link associates in Bkk as well. again mainly HD but ya never know (you going to have to google Link cos i've lost the address)

If you are worried about maintenance, why not just buy an automatic chain oiler such as Scottoiller or similar. Will save you a boat load of cash.

@thaicbr: Thanks for that. I'll check out Link as soon as I've had my coffee, cigarette, scotch, shower, and shave.

@tj916: Not a bad idea, but it's already kind of a no-brainer (for me) to grease the son-of-a-beach every 1000km. It's the other maintenance conveniences I'm after, plus the smoother ride. I plan on making more long hauls as my free time increases.

@Dude: I hadn't considered that. Combined with an automatic oiler, that might be a "step-up" from the regular roller chain. HOWEVER, I've also got a mind on the performance and efficiency increase of a belt drive. Your closing comment, by the way, was kind of weak in smartassery, only +15 Smartass Points for you.
