Pattaya, 27 October, 2009, [PDN]: At the instigation of Chonburi police HQ, concerned that the three accomplices in the abduction-rape-theft case were merely the tip of the iceberg, local police stepped up their efforts to uncover the larger gang network that is suspected to have been involved in a spate of crimes in the province. Three gang members of a larger criminal network have now been arrested and there may even be more.

Pol.Lt.Col. Grit Tong-in and the Chonburi HQ team expanded their investigations from information gleaned from interrogating the three alleged criminals caught yesterday. At 8.30 pm, on 26 October, 2009, the police managed to arrest three gang members of another network, namely Mr. Akarat Kuratnahm, [35], residing at 38/8 Moo. 6 Nongplalai, Banglamung, Mr. Suthip Cheunboonpol, [33], from 104/48 Moo. 5 Naklua and Mr. Komsan Tubtimtech, [17], as well as the evidence of a car registration plate, no. 4878 ,Chonburi.

Police said, due to the successful apprehension of the three gang members of the previous abduction-rape-theft case, the top-ranking Chonburi police had exerted pressure on local police officers to be more diligent in their investigation of this ever-expanding case, as it would appear that it involves a considerable number of related crimes of various descriptions.

In a follow-up examination of the dwelling of Mr. Weerayut, the alleged rapist-abductor-thief , police discovered a car registration plate no. 4878,Chonburi.

Mr. Weerayut had earlier confessed that, in the middle of July this year, he and his friend, Komsan, had broken into a room, at the Sky Beach Condo, Soi 18, Wong Amat, Pattaya-Naklua Road, later identified as belonging to a Mr. Peter Wolf Ramm, [48 ]. Weerayut confessed to having stolen many valuables and also a car remote control, before escaping.

Returning the next day, the two accomplices went to the car park of the condo and randomly pushed the car remote control remote button to see if it would activate any of the locks of the cars in the car park. Conveniently, lights flashed and the four doors of a black Mitsubishi Triton opened, allowing them to gain access. They apparently leapt into the car, drove to the entrance where they handed the security guard a pass-out card, which is presumed to have already been in the car, and drove away.

After that, they contacted a Mr. Akarat Kuratnahm, a well-known car painter, who works at a car repair shop in the Krating Lai area, of the Sukhumvit-Pattaya Road Soi 3. They then apparently sold the Triton truck to him for only Bt100, 000. Following this, they allege the car was sold on to a Mr. Tee [real name unknown], a broker, and he apparently transported it to the border to sell in a neighbouring country.

The three new accomplices, Mr. Akarat Kuratnahm, Mr. Suthip Cheunboonpol, and Mr. Komsan Tubtimtech, were subsequently arrested. During police investigations, Mr. Komsan, had his urine checked and he was found to be on drugs, also. The whole gang was subsequently charged with robbery and Mr. Komsan with taking drugs. It is noteworthy that had it not been for the directives given by the Chonburi HQ, the other gang may not have been apprehended. Police investigations are continuing.
