Done By The Tailor

Just bought some stuff from a tailor and got completely done. They were obviously ready made and then just altered by my measurements. Although this does sound practical the stuff just doesnt look or feel right. I got the shirts for just 500 baht and with that in mind can any seriously recommend a pro tailor who wont do this type of thing to me as Im looking to get some more stuff made.

Cheers

I tried them all, including the advised ones on this forum... Exactly what you say... Never got anything fitting the first time, always had to alter things. In Pattaya and BKK are the real better ones! The first thing a tailor has to do is take the right measurements, they all fail here.

Neeramit just around the corner from Prince Hotel. If heading east on Chiang Moi turn left at the four way intersection and they are 50 metres before you get to the traffic lights.

Been in business since 1953.

Never heard a bad word about them and, yes, I have had work done there myself :)

And the work is done "in house" not like the many others who just take the measurements and get the garment knocked up at some sweat shop.

No need to go to Pattaya or Bangkok, as there are plenty of excellent tailors here. All I can say is that you must have a real odd shaped body if, as you say, "I tried them all" and never got anything fitting first time.

Over twenty years of using Neramit I have never had one problem!

Correct! I have a heavy spondylitis. And I stick with my remark.. it is all about taking the right measurements. I can talk with experience

Experience of what "real hands on" that would seem to be an apt description of you :D

Hands on, do you get it :):D

jbg, if I suggested what you are suggesting :D I'd probably get a stiff warning or worse from the Mod team.

BB, don't be doing that. I am tying to keep my head down below the top of the trenches.

But there are "the good, the bad and the downright ugly" so apart from keeping my head down I have to my eyes peeled both left and right also :D

As for the "stiff" warning I could handle that from a couple of quarters I guess.

It's my understand that genuine bespoke tailors never get it exactly right the first time. you are expected to go for 3 or more fittings. even more some time. that was my experience in Ireland 35 years ago at a first rate tailor. I also did an internet search under "bespoke tailors how many fitting" and that confirmed what i thought. here is a short explanation that i copied from one web page of a Savile Row tailor.

"Why do hand made suits require so many fittings? - Cutters are perfectionists and can see faults that the untrained eye would never notice. Our cutters will not rest until your bespoke suit reaches perfection, even if that means up to five fittings."

I've had the same experience in Chiang Mai.

I feel sorry for all the people that are physically challenged, and have problems, but would you care to mention exactly what problems you have encountered in Chiangmai, and from whom.

....the biggest problem I have is that my boobs are bigger than average Thai size.... meaning absolutely non-existent!!! Tailors here can tend to put darts in the weirdest places.... unless your moobs (man boobs) are large, you guys are sooooooooo lucky....... I find that little 'non-tailors' can be just as good as specialised places around CM.... I'm just trying another one at a local market to see how she goes.... 500 baht for a full length dress, not including fabric....
