Apartment Renting Scams

Featured Replies

Beware of renting an apartment for 3 months or longer in Thailand, your neighbours can be friends of the person that owns your apartment or the condo the owner. Once you paid advance/deposit they may try to get you out within those 3 months by making a lot of noise in any way they can when you are at your room..

They even may pay someone to annoy you, to get you out...

If you move out within a few weeks they get away with your money and they'll find a new "victim"...

I think you should lay off the coffee at night mate. You are giving far too much credit to those where it doesn't belong.

Which bar did you hear that in? Sounds like another one of those barstool myths that gets shared after the consumption of one too many alcoholic beverages.

Must be the time of year at the moment. I suggest you send a mail to Auntie Cognos -Thai Visa's very own guru of Thailand.

Try watching the movie Duplex. Just imagine it's in Thailand and not America. Then, when your paranoia has festered a little bit more, add another post to make this thread even sillier.

Can it seriously become any sillier? :)

I'm sure with just a little bit of effort, some spelling mistakes, a glass of chang and some smudged rose coloured glasses it could get sillier that a one eyed ferret race

your forgot to mention the "AON" :) cash points. :D

Wow, you can get ATM's in rented apartments now? I knew i shouldn't have rented a house. If someone uses YOUR ATM, do you get a share of the 150 Baht?

:) You also need to be aware though of those little pixies running around annoying you -remember they are being paid by Thais to annoy you, so you will move out.

You don't get charged 150 baht if you have a Thai account, just in-case you weren't aware.

It's those dam_n pesky Thais again. :)

but if someone comes and uses the ATM without a thai account, would I get a % of the charge? Or do the pixies get it?

If i do get a share, could this get me into trouble with immigration as i do not have a work permit?

Not sure, but if you have a ferret it may be okay.

I have a ferret, he's not a professional writer but he likes banging away. (the little tosser).

Does he like beaver??

Oh yes.

When he sees one he normally points to it and his head bobs up and down.

I wonder if ferrets are allowed in the OP's apartments though?

Doubt it. No beavers there, only one big chocolate starfish i would guess.

And some professional pixies that annoy him. Yeah, not real ferret territory.

What a croc of crap!!

Why would they go to all this trouble when they will rarely ever give a farang back his whole security deposit after the term anyway :)

From my experience of having many appartments..the owners are great when you are there..some will do anything to help you out but when it comes to getting deposit back..forget it..they will do anything and offer any excuse why they wont.

You will always be the rich farang and how dare you ask any money back from a poor Thai.

My policy now is to source an appartment where you can afford (ie. presume) to forgo the deposit...simple
