What Type Of Visa For My Child?

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Would appreciate if any of you could provide some input.

Have a Thai wife & Singaporean infant < 1 yr old

Our marriage is legalised in Singapore.

If I were to relocate to Thailand, what sort of visa should I get for my

boy(Singaporean birth certificate)??

I understand that should I work, I would require a work permit & valid visa status..

But what about my boy?

Is my wife able to get him a Thai PP or something thereabouts??

I have not heard of anyone with such an issue.

Any advise rendered would be deeply appreciated.

Cheers

Moved to Thailand visa section

Your child can get a Thai passport, as his mother is Thai. You would have to go with the birth certificate to the Thai embassy and apply for a Thai birth certificate and at the same time you can apply for a Thai passport.

I'm note sure if Singapore allows dual nationality, Thailand does. So inquire first what the consequences would be, but believe he would not be required to chose till he becomes 18 years old.

I do not believe Singapore allows dual nationality so child could enter using Singapore passport and just stay (no overstay fine for children). Once father obtains one year extensions of stay could obtain matching.

Surly Thai citizenship could be claimed and a Thai passport obtained but expect this is a case of wanting to protect the Singapore nationality so I would advise obtaining legal advise in Singapore before taking any action.

think dual citizenship is not the answer so I guess I'll have to get an extension stay visa or marriage extension or something & have it run concurrently?

Child overstay no fine?? Could I just get him to enter the country & stay?? Of cos I will have to get my own visa.

While technically illegal , children under 14 do not get fined for overstay.

No problem under school age - when register for school may have to be legal (although have seen reports of it not being a problem). At some point you will probably want to extend stay yearly and child could also do so.

got it thanks Lopburi3...!

you should check carefully, but I think singapore doesn't have a problem with a child being born with dual citzenship to have both up until the age 22. After then i beleive they need to renounce all their other citizenships if they wish to retain their singaporean citizenship.
