I saw the Burmese border control refuse $10 American bills, so I didn't even bother offering American cash. Chiang Mai to Mai Sai by first class air con bus was about 600 baht return. Trip took about 4 to 5 hours one way. Short stop at Chiang Rai on way up and back. 20 baht from Mai Sai bus station to the border by red bus.
