"faah" - Freckel Spots In My Girlfriends Face

Recommended Posts

My girlfriend has got a lot of freckle like spots in her face, she calls them "faah", but to me it looks similar to freckles, she says she never had any problems with this before, but when she went to stay in Phuket for a few months and constantly got exposed to the sun, she got it. And she also blames her cheap (non expensive, bad quality) birth control pills, saying that it is because of them in combination with the sun that makes the "faah" areas in her face.

My theory is that for the most part, it is regular freckles, and that they will increase, when exposed to more sun, and if avoiding sun for a period of time, it will go away.

Does anyone knows anything about this?

Can birth control pills have any effect in a way it will show up as dark freckle like areas in the face?

Is there a natural, non complicated way to remove these darker areas? She feels very uncomfortable having them, as i can understand.

Not sure if it is the same but any birth control hormone or even pregnancy can lead to darker facial discoloration, mostly on the cheecks. This gets darker when exposed to sun and will usually be permanent.

Some cheap skin whitening creams contains(/ed; not allowed any more) chemicals (mercury) that caused long term skin damage that result in darker coloured areas.

My Thai Husband has this on his face so we went and spent a fair bit of money on Laser which only made them worse ,HOWEVER there is this thai woman in our condo that sells this cream for this so i thought i would buy some (not believing that it would work) so he tried it and in only 1 week i could clearly see the results and now after 1 month his skin is almost perfect. I was so shocked that i got my friend from Australia to try it on her freckles and it even worked on her and she has now asked me to get her some more, so feel free to PM me for her number.

To my knowledge adding sugar has nothing to do with 'farangatizing' as Thais love to put sugar in almost everything, including ordinary vegaetables as well as curries and soups. This is what I have gleaned from conversations and observation.

Hi Rachels,

Would love to have the name of that cream.

Thanks and take care,

My wife's family and friends take some pill called Transamin which seems to be widely available in pharmacies here. Some of her friends coming back to visit Thailand buy several bottles to take back to where they live outside of Thailand.

It seems to work to lighten dark skin on the face but I have found very little reference to Transamin being used in this manner by searching the web. From what I have read it seems even a bit scary to me that Transamin is being used this way. Some of these women take 2 or 3 pills daily. Is anyone else aware of this?

Yeah, i think it is what happened to her, the pills in combination with too much sun.

I am really worried about all of these creams that seems do the skin whiter, although it seems like some of them are better than others.

Sorry i have no idea of the name because they have no name on them but i think they are from the clinic. They come in a pack of 3 creams and 1 soap and the price is $1000 baht but i dont think my husband will use it for much longer as his face is looking great now. I know many people in our condo are using it too and i believe she sends it all over thailand aswell but thats all i know without chatting to her a bit more.

The combo of the Pill + sun is probably the culprit. A different form of birth control + sun block should help.

If despite that the spots don't fade, you can get a cream containing hydroquinone, apply sparingly to the spots at bedtime. Takes about 6 weeks but it does work. Brand names include Persatina, Tri-Luma and Delanin.

Works on "age spots" too.

Can be a bit hard to find, I got some at the pharmacy near the grocery store in central Chidlom.

the use of Transamin (tranexamic acid) is indeed worrying., it is not approved for this purpose, safety of using it in that way is unknown, and it can have some very serious side effects.

Thank you for that information useful information.

My gf just bought some cheap lotion she said would help, but how do i knowit does not contain transamin (tranexamic acid)?

What is it called in thai?

A cheap lotion won't contain it, it is sold as a pill to be taken systemically (all the more worrying)

Many of the lotions sold as "whiteners" simply contain sunscreen. others contain various bleaches some of which can be harsh on the skin.

A good quality high SPF sun block will do more good.

The active ingrediants should be listed on the bottle if it was bought at a shop (aklthough probably in Thai). If she got it at a skin clinic, many of these doctors are in the habit of dispensing pills and lotions in unmarked containers and not revealing what is in them (unethical, but they do).

Ok great, then i do not have to worry about her cheap lotion, do you say that a quality sunblock could actually actively help to remove the dark areas in her face, or is it rather the fact that it will block out sun?

It will not actively remove anything. It will block the sun rays which, together with melanin-producing cells in the skin, form the spots. In other words, it will prevent worsening iof existing and formation of new spots, and hopefully with time the old ones will fade.

yeah, that is what i thought, got a little confused when you mentioned sun block cream will do more good than bleaching. But yeah, i understand what you ment.

OK i asked the girl and apparently it is from julalungjong University. (sorry about the spelling)

They make face cream at the Chulalongkorn University?

Posted

cosmetic creams, no, but their OPD could have prescribed a medicated lotion.

if it is from Chula should be clearly labelled by their pharmacy, including what it contains

Ok, that sounds good. Thank you for the help

FWIW.

My wife has some, she has been tempted by the creams and gels promoted endlessly by Thai companies that prey on this insecurity. I have told her repeatedly that I love her because they look sexy (they do). I am no longer pestered to buy that junk.
