Deputy police chief denies Chonburi is insurgent target

CHONBURI: -- Deputy National Police Chief Pol. Gen. Boonpen Bumpenboon today denied that southern insurgents were targeting Thailand's eastern province of Chonburi, while expressing satisfaction over security arrangements at the province's Laem Chabang Port.

Speaking at Laem Chabang Port after informing local police officers of national policies to prevent shipping crime, Pol.Gen. Boonpen said that security had been tightened across the province.

Chonburi is known both for its major tourism resorts, including Pattaya, and its industrial zones and world-renowned Laem Chabang Port.

Confirming that rumours that insurgents were about to target the province had been closely examined by police intelligence analysts, Pol. Gen. Boonpen said that they had all been proved false.
