Possible? Yes

Practical? That depends on your application and budget.

How many cameras?

Where are they located?

Where is the signal going (Range)?

How do you intend to receive the signal? (you will also have to power the transmitter if radio frequency)

There are cameras that connect to an Ethernet cable and get their power over the ethernet cable (max 100M using a special hub or switch, but they are not cheap.

I have some small cheap cameras around my house which transmit theri signal about 40 meters and can be powered from a 9v battery. There is no reason why such a camera could not be solar powered except that you would need several cells to get the voltage, and also a storage battery so as you do not lose video when the sun is not shining.

Everything is possible on solar power, but will get terribly expensive depending on what you are doing!

What exactly has to be solar powered? Just the camera(s) or also the recording device?

The little camera's without IR LED lighting use very little power, they should be easily powered by solar along with a rechargeable battery.

The Infrared night camera's eat a fair bit of power, over 0.5 amp at 12 volts. Which would need a pretty big solar panel! Let's say 0.7 amps by 12 Volts is 8.5 watt. You'll need to triple this as you only have 12 hours of light and it's not always sunny, and charging the battery does not happen at 100% efficiency. Works out to around 25 watt.

A 30 Watt solar panel can be had for under 250 US$, not sure of the price in Thailand though. Add to that the charge electronics and the battery and you're probably looking at 10,000 Baht or so per camera!

Running the DVR of solar power would likely require an even more expensive solar panel system, as the thing with the hard drive churning away also eats a fair it of power...

So yes, everything is doable if you pay!
