Extend, Overstay Or...

Featured Replies

Hi,

I am a Swedish citizen in Thailand on a double entry tourist visa. I arrived September 20 and left a month later for a week so I am now on my second entry and the visa expires December 19. I am going to Vietnam December 27 (cannot change the date) and are coming back to Thailand January 7 and have a return ticket to Sweden Jan 11.

If I overstay, will I have problems entering the country January 7?

Or should I extend the visa locally? Can I then enter again Jan 7?

Or should I do anything else?

Can someone please tell me the best options?

Thanks in advance

Marie

If you entered on/about 27 October your permitted to stay should be 60 days later - or about 25 December. But regardless you should extend for the normal 30 days to allow stay beyond your travel date and avoid needless overstay. You can then obtain the normal 30 day visa exempt stamp on January 7.

This highlights very clearly the confusion that reigns over Thai visas and what one is or is not entitled to.

My comment is not aimed at anyone in particular and no criticism of the OP is intended at all.

Thank goodness for the Thai Visa Forum website and the advice given, normally by the same handful of informed contributors, guiding people in the right direction.
