Pattaya City Receives Nearly 1,365 Million Baht To Expand Transportation System

Featured Replies

attaya Mayor Itthiphol Kunplome revealed, “The government has allowed 1,365 million baht to be spent on improving Pattaya’s transportation system. 630 million Baht will be spent on improving the terminals at the Pattaya U-tapao international airport. The runway, as well as plane parking area, will also be expanded to be able to provide more flights as well as to hold more charter flights, which are rented flights. The improvements are expected to be completed mid 2011.”

When the project is completed, Pattaya U-tapao International Airport will be able to service double the current number of flights. The airport will be able to accommodate 150 international charter flights.

“The other 735 million Baht will be put toward expanding car and boat parking areas around the Bali Hai Pier. The parking spaces will be built on 15 rai of land and will be able to hold 420 cars and 400 boats to meet with the increasing number of tourists. This project is expected to be completed around the end of 2010,” added Mayor Itthiphol.

The Mayor also reported on the current state of tourism during this high season saying, “It can be clearly seen since September that the tourism rate is around 80%, which is a good number considering the past chaos. We have done many marketing campaigns to draw tourists. Next year will also be a good year for us since there will be more five star hotels opening. We will spend about 40 million baht to promote tourism in Pattaya.”

Too bad they can't try to spend some money getting a bus system running. Last time they tried the local Song Taew mafia quickly stuck the boot in. Shame.

What a load of,,cant wait to see the mess they will make of Bali high, the major will be very happy about all this no doubht.

Add to the Runway? It's one of the longest pieces of concrete in SE Asia! It was designed to handle fully laden B52s

during the Vietnam war. It can certainly take a B747-400 at max take off weight.

If these proposed measures are intended to encourage yet more traffic into the already congested road infrastructure, the whole of Pattaya will become a car park. :)

Don't worry, the new mono rail will solve everything.

Wonder how much of the total sum will actualy be spent on the works? I imagine a helluva load of "consultancy fees" wil be required

+1. Not a satang in there for getting rid of the baht buses! In fact, this could mean MORE baht buses.

I quite agree.

Baht buses (songteows) are an absolute menace on the roads.

A two thirds reduction in the number of them would make the roads alot less congested and a ruddy sight safer too!

Iv'e been saying that for years, that is by far the simplest solution. It always make me laugh when i see reports of city hall employing the services of engineers to asses the traffic problems and come up with solutions!!!!!!!

Simple answer-As above, and i give you that assesment for FREE!!!!!!!! :)

And how will Five star hotels bring in more tourists ? , anyone who can afford these rooms will stay at a resort with clean safe beaches and good safe infrastructure, as for spending 40 Million Bht promoting tourism, if it is going to be spent bringing more Indian, Chinese and Korean quality tourists God help the local bussiness owners.
