Officers and Volunteers were called to assist two women invovled in a minor accident at the location and when they arrived they saw a man carrying a two-way radio who had told everyone he was a Police Volunteer and wanted to help. The real Police and Volunteers could not identify the man as a volunteer and he was subsequently detained and found to be in possession of the two-way radio. He was taken back to Pattaya Police Station where he claimed he only wanted to help the two accident victims and was sorry he introduced himself as a Police Volunteer, when in fact, he was not. Maybe I'm wrong, however, what is the problem carrying a 2way radio and why get arrested for that??

Good Motorola units are freely available at many computer malls etc.

It may be that the frequencies are the police ones rather than "open" one.

Radio transmitters of any type or size are subject strict licensing in Thailand. I think this could also be the problem, the ones issued by the police are covered by their license, it is a symbol of authority to have a 2 way of any type.
