I'm a Malaysian and married my wife ( Thai National ) since 1986 and has been renewed ID Card once ,her hometown in Chiangrai,

House certificate has been certified and replaced to my surname same as in her current passport now, but soon will expired in July,2010.

Her ID card already expired 5 years ago and to renew her passport this time , she need to renew her ID card first before passport .

So my question is :

a. Can she renew her ID Card in Betong Province of Thailand?

b. Does she need to change her House certificate to Betong Address so she no need to go back to Chiangrai to do it.

c. What is the required documents she need to bring along? . She has Malaysia PR already !

d. How long period of process to renew her ID Card?

Thank everyone in advance ..... i 'll be very much appreciate

a. Can she renew her ID Card in Betong Province of Thailand?

Yes, she can renew it at any Ampur or district office in Thailand. They're all connected together in a network.

b. Does she need to change her House certificate to Betong Address so she no need to go back to Chiangrai to do it.

This again can be done at the office. It's Not required. But If you renew with old address then that's what will be used on the new ID card. Another thing is if you want to have the address changed into something closer to where you live now you will need to 'move into a new house registration book with the 'master of the house' also present and giving permission to move into the new book. But this is a matter that must be completed before the ID is renewed. The old book will not be required. And at any time the old book is handded over to the office in Chiangrai it will come up that your wife has been moved from the old book and will be stamped accordingly. But that's just a red stamp and doesn't actually make anything official since all the information stored in the national database will have already been changed.

c. What is the required documents she need to bring along? . She has Malaysia PR already !

Her old Id card of course and also a photocopy of the house registration book new or old (first page along with her own listed page.)

d. How long period of process to renew her ID Card?

30 minutes if there's not a lot of people queued up.

Before i call off ,that i would like to ask to confirm whether what actually i have now ,

is a single photocopy of 'house registration' with red original rubber stamp on it ( with my wife name changed to my surname)

a. Is it called 'House Certificate'? Just a single copy !!

b. And according to you if all requirement documents presented that day , my wife can collect her Thai ID in 30 minutes or 24 hours?

c. What is their Betong Ampur ID Card operation hours ( 5days a week )?

d. Can i renew her id card prior to 6 months passport expired date ( expired July,2010 )?

Cos' i be able to renew passport in Thai Consulate in Kuala Lumpur !!

Are you sure about this? Have the rules been changed lately? Last year my gf had to go back to her home amphur, where her old id was issued, to get a new id- card in order to get a passport. She could not do it locally where she lived at the time.

I have had this problem how it was explained to me was anybody born before 1974 will not be on computer yet , because they are putting everything in the system, she may have to go back to were she was born to the local amphur, It may have changed if they have caught up with the back log.I tried two years ago and ended going back to the girls place of birth. As you know they make it difficult for there own people as well as falang.

How is that? I thought the law said Thai's are supposed to be registered where they live. If they are following the law, they'll live where they are registered, making renewal of ID cards a simple process.

If they aren't following the law, I suppose they should accept minor inconveniences from time to time.

It's the same thing for voting.

"Sometimes they look for work where they are not registered..."

They are supposed to be registered where they actually live. That means if they live somewhere else because of work, they are supposed to be registered there. The fact that they often don't do that is not relevant.

In the past things were not computerized. People returning home to renew cards was/is an inconvenience, but an acceptable one to most Thai's.
