Lcd Tv As Monitor

Featured Replies

Got a pc plugged into lcd 32" via hdmi cable.

I have a clear enough image after having preset the resolution. However, the image is about 5% too big for the screen and I am therefore having problems getting the extremities of Windows XP in. This is especially awkward when I'm trying to close a window by using the red X-box in the top corner.

On a monitor or normal tv I'd go and adjust the image by pinching or reducing it a bit, but I can't find how to do that.

I've been through the desktop settings, the tv menu and even read the instructions for the tv, too.

Help!

Thank you.

What graphics card do you have? have you downloaded the latest driver from the manufacturer as the standard drivers from MS don't give you all the options to correct issues like this.

My laptop connected to a 32" LCD Sony as we speak. I must "push" mouse arrow at top of screen to show the header, and "push" down to see the taskbar. PITA. The LH and RH borders are OK

That's a common problem with using TV monitors. First, ensure that your PC graphics setting matches the native resolution of the monitor; anything other than the native resolution will result in degraded picture quality. Even if you have a correct match the picture as viewed, in many instances that I have seen, will be cut off on the top/bottom and sides. This is due to the TV screen settings, which fail to match the image transmitted from the computer to the monitor. The monitor may have some ability to shift the picture but I have not found such on Samsung, LG and Panasonic current models. Frustrating experience, please post if you find a solution.

When most machines are plugged into a tv, it detects it as such and enables "overscan". This should be a setting in your display properties that you can disable. Or use something like Nvtools (if you have an nVidia gpu) and you can resize the reposition the display.

Thanks y'all.

I managed to access another bunch of settings by right-clicking on desktop and going to my video card (Asus 1gb, I think). There were all sorts of options there that are NOT part of the normal Windows stuff.

Hope this will help others, too.
