Where To Renew Multiple Entry Non-imm O

Featured Replies

Hello,

I have a non-immigration type O 12 month visa that will run out in around July 2010.

I am from the UK and got the visa when I was in the UK before coming out.

I understand to renew it/get another one I have to leave Thailand but I am unsure of which country I must apply in.

What are the chances of me getting another one? Is it straight forward or does it depend on the case?

Are some countries better to apply for it from?

Thanks.

On what basis was your Non-O visa originally issued? Thai wife/Thai child/retirement/visiting friends?

Sorry what they mean is, you should more specific about what type of visa you had. I would think you can extend in Thailand. You should state your original visa plus you age Etc Etc Etc

Applying for extension of stay might be an alternative option, but without knowing his circumstances it is impossible to say. Further information is required from the OP to be in a position to reply.

No speculative postings please.

HalfSquat, there is no way to “renew” a visa. There is a long list here of reasons for applying at an immigration office in Thailand for an extension of stay but from your post it appears that you are talking about getting a new non-O visa from a Thai consulate.

Different consulates have different requirements for granting a non-O visa and use different application forms. When you applied for the visa you are currently using, you probably filled in a field “purpose of visit” or “purpose of trip”. What did you write in this field? What will be the "purpose of trip" for you next visa application?

Thanks for the replies.

The purpose of my trip was accompanying my girlfriend (English) who got a job out here in Thailand. I put something to that effect on my form. I had a letter from her employer also to back this up and recommending I be given a 12 month one visa.

The above will be the reason I apply for another one next year.

You 'might' be able to obtain in Perth with a copy of her passport showing extension of stay and such a letter but I suspect most Consulates would not issue. So it is likely a long trip or tourist visas.

You are aware that a return the day before visa expires gets another 90 day permitted to stay stamp?

Yes I am, but I would still need another 9 months after that as I plan to stay for two years in total.

Looks like it's a trip back to blighty. At least I can stock up on some clothes.

Not necessarily. If your visa expires July 2010 then a border run before it expires will stretch your permission to stay to Oct 2010. That's a fair way off and things can change but, based on the position now, you could obtain double entry tourist visa from Vientiane which, with extensions and border run in the middle, would give a further 6 months stay. Then renew again or obtain single entry visa, depending upon your final plans.

You can not find clothes in Thailand? If it a size issue they can make to order.

Not a size issue, just haven't seen anything that I like that doesn't cost an arm and a leg.

So if I was going back to England I could combine it with some clothes shopping and get some t-shirts and shorts and trainers etc.

Thanks for that, will have a think about the options.

Is Australia the nearest country I could apply for a 12 month non-imm o visa from?

Based on your posts believe you would be applying on the basis of visiting friends. Oz is the nearest country. Perth and Brisbane consulates will issue, but require copy of Thai friend ID card/passport. If going back home, Hull currently issuing with minimal paperwork.

Thanks but it is not a Thai friend I am visiting but my English girlfriend who is working/living out here. That was my reason when applying for the visa I have now.

Suspect you will have to return to Hull in that case.

You better inquire at Perth by email if they will issue with a note of your girlfriend living in Thailand. You might need to go back to Hull to get a new multiple non-O and financialy might be better of with a few tourist visa's after you have used up your current visa in Oct 2010.
