I have about 40 Gig of songs and movies stored on my Hard-Disk.

I would like to put them into a catalog in the style in which they are displayed in Windows Media Player (Name, Song Title, Performer, Album, Bit Rate, etc..).

Does anybody knows of a good (freeware) program which can do that?

TIA

I use iTunes myself.

The thing to bear in mind is most media managers read the mp3 "tag" files, so the key is to make sure all your music is "tagged" correctly before importing to your media player.

I keep all my albums in the folders and then tag them using "tag&rename". I then embed the artwork and I'm set.

Drop them into iTunes and away you go.

Alternatives are Winamp, WMP, iTunes, many more...

I have iTunes, but have not installed it.

Does iTunes display also non-mp3-tag information as for example the bit-rate?

Does iTunes allows me to export the whole list into a Database (eg.: MS Access)?

Winamp does hangup when trying to read the amount of files (+10,000.

Windows Media Player is a little bit better on charging that amount of files, but lacks some information which is important to me.

I didn't try other software yet ....

Yeah iTunes can display birate and more options, not enabled by default so your need to enable it. Tag&Rename will show far more detail including the encoder used.

My iTunes library is 251gb and is very slow when scrolling songs with the album art turned on. To be honest iTunes sucks, but it's the easiest to find and display music. As for editing the tags using it, no way!

You can export the library but I'm not sure about into access. In winamp Alt + G should make a nice html list for you.

I used iTunes when they were pushing it for Windows and now have a mess. Folders in folders forever. The system could not read some Windows names and changed or deleted them (rather than ask for input). The worst software I have ever used. Perhaps they have fixed the bugs but I will never touch Mac software again after my experience. I admit if did not like to use folder views in Windows it might not matter - but in Windows it does.

I prefer Windows Media Player for audio and Coolector for movies. But use VLC for play.

That's because you didn't look in the options and you must have "let iTunes manage my music" ticked, WHICH IS A BAD IDEA!

As you have found out it re-arranges your folders, edit the filenames etc...

You have to go into the setup and get it set correct, or yes, it can make a very big mess of hours of tagged and arranged albums.

As I have said, edit all the tags FIRST and put your songs in folders as you like, THEN add them to itunes.

VLC is great and plays anything, but does not have the library features like other players have.

I can't say i'm an iTunes fan, but when your music is all set it's definitely the best program to navigate and find music quickly and easily. It just eats system resources when it's running!

MP3 Tag can also help re-tagging, editting tags or search online for missing MP3 tags.

Just tried the programm out.

Great!!!!!!!!

Now just find a way to export the information to a Database.

Should be possible accrording to thair website.

Thanks
