Urgent! Visa Exp Tomorrow, Immigration Asks For Money For Visa Ext.

Featured Replies

We arrived at Bangkok 2 weeks ago, received a visa on arrival (we are citizens of Ukraine). Visa as everyone know is free. We got a touristic for 15 days. Since our flight back is in 5 days, today we go to Samui Immigration office, and they ask for 2000 BAHT for EACH OF US for visa extension.

Is it normal if the visa is free? Even if it's not free it should cost 1000 baht per person and not 2000.

Any advice?

Maybe i should call touristic police of Surat Thani immigration office?

Thanx in advance

First, what is URGENT about this?

I have no idea what the answer to this situation is, although my guess is that while the initial visa is free, the extension may not be. Did you check ahead into that.

You imply there is dishonesty here. It remains to be seen if there is.

An extension is 1900b per person.

the urgency is that the visa 15 expires TOMORROW. ofcourse i didn't look in to it, because if something is FREE it is FREE.

is there any way to avoid paying this fee?

leaving to another country and then entering again?

You have two options.

Overstay or border run, either one will cost you more than the going rate for an extension.

Why did you go for a 15 day visa on arrival when you can get a 30day entry stamp for the same price ??

because for citizens of Ukraine you get only 15 days visa on arrival, otherwise i should have made the visa back in Ukraine.

Ok, if i fly tomorrow to Kuala_lumpur, will i be able to re-enter Thailand Saturday with this visa on arrival option and then fly back home from BKK? Because someone told me that u can get this visa on arrival only once per 30 or 60 days.

Why do you want to fly anywhere, it will cost you more than just getting an extension......

Spending XXXXXbaht to save 1900baht is idiot logic at its finest.

Maybe their logic is rather than paying out 1900 baht per person (3800 baht for two) for visa extension - they might as well fly to KL. Yes it will be a bit more now that they have to buy 2 round trip tickets to KL and a night or two at a hotel, but at least they get to travel and see KL... I don't see anything wrong with this do you?

if i can fly to Kuala Lumpur for 2000-2500 round trip - it's worth it. isn't it?

it's worth it. isn't it?

2000/2500 vs 1900 ........ i must be missing the point.

OP can try to fly to KL tmr, but airasia cheapest round trip would be THB8,999 per pax :)

No, it's not worthy at all, if you just need 5 days!

Just get your 7 days extension -as mentioned before- :)

If your intention is just to get an extension and you couldn't care less about visiting KL, then why spend more money, TIME and energy flying to KL when you can get an extension for much cheaper!! So now I'm questioning your logic!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :)

Welcome to Thailand where if something is free there will be a hidden charge.

Yes the visa is/was free and you got your 15 days as per the free "contract". If you want more you either have to:-

Leave the country, re-enter and get a new 15 days VoA absolutely free.

or

Pay 1900 Baht, go nowhere except the local immigration and carry on your holiday without the hassle of travelling out anywhere.

It is, as is often said, Up 2 You. For me there's no decision to be made, you want an extra 5 days so it's 1900 Baht each versus a day or two travelling costing a darn sight more will all the hassle involved.

You cannot. A round trip ticket to KL is a lot more than that. I checked last week, and booking 2 weeks in advance it was at least 6,000 baht per person. Booking at such short notice will cost you even more. What's the point paying over 12,000 baht to save 3,800 baht?

2 Choices.

7 day extension from Immigration 1,900 Baht.

Leave the country and return and get another free VOA 15 days.

What's the point paying over 12,000 baht to save 3,800 baht?

so he can get in the country again for free? :)

ok, my friend just returned from immigration office. he went alone cause my passport is at bike-rent. anyway the lady there told him to pay when he gave her the documents in the morning, but he had no money and told her he would pay when he picks up passport afternoon. when he returned she gave him the passport but didn't ask for any money. he turnd around and drove away. i think she forgot. i hope no problems for him with that?

I see the true source of all the jokes.

One can only hope that she made a copy of the passport.

All nonsense. I knew this was a troll thread, and a very bad troll one at that.

Just one suggestion for anyone out there who takes this seriously. NEVER LEAVE A PASSPORT ANYWHERE AS SECURITY. If anyone ever asks for it, walk away and find an honest business.
