Health Insurance Cover For Riding A Motorcycle

Featured Replies

coming to Thailand for a year in January...........i have found a travel insurance company ( world first UK) that i plan to use..has anybody had any experience of them?....the policy includes hospital expenses riding up to 125cc motorcycle which is fine for hiring a scooter .........being an experienced biker i may be tempted to purchase or hire something bigger and was wondering how i would go about covering any medical expenses in case of an accident (touch wood)......can medical cover for this be incorporated in a bike insurance policy in Thailand should i decide to purchase a big bike?....thanks

Sorry we do not have any experience of 'World First' but we can help you out with insurance in Thailand.

For accidents you can buy a P.A. policy which will cover you but should you decide to buy a bike then the insurance you purchase for the bike will include medical expenses to a larger or lesser degree depending on level of cover and company.

May we suggest you go Here when you require a quote ?

What is the maximum speed you can drive without the insurance void? Is it the speed limit?

Also, what if I am driving in the right hand lane?

Do these "illegal activities" void the insurance?

^Just because you are driving in the RH lane, doesnt make it illegal, there are defences for being out there, you know?

If you inted to drive like that here stay home. I hate funerals.

If you plan on turning right at the nearby intersection or do a u-turn. Other than that I think you are allowed to overtake a bus if it has stopped in the left lane.

Aside from that, it's illegal and you get a ticket.

That's my experience at least?

Lenny,

Theres a little bit more to it than that, I actually keep a copy of the act and section in thai under my bike seat because I've run into the BIB a couple of times whilst avoiding an obstruction on the road and travelled into the RH lane to do so. Ive never been fined for that, although a few have tried but given up once they knew I was on the game :):D .

Theres actually 5 exemptions for travelling in the right hand lane.

I find it safer to drive with the flow of traffic, rather than going slower and having everyone try to take you over or tail gate you with some huge truck.

Many roads are perfectly fine for driving highway speed, and everyone else does. I will have less problems driving highway speed when there is little traffic (on one of those big 6 lane roads with the island as well with overpasses or underpasses at intersections) in the right hand lanes, than I will driving slow in the left and getting taken over and having to take over buses, stopped vehicles, or pulling out taxis, while everyone else in the right lanes are coming faster not allowing me to take over a bus.

Of course I don't go 100 in heavy traffic, and like to pull on it here and then when there is a break in traffic on a big road, or raised section.

Turning right, u-turn, overtaking a stopped bus, avoiding a potential accident or obstruction. Yes I guess so, but I usually travel in the right lane all the time. Never get any tickets (or rarely, because I know where the cops will and always look ahead).

Or I just don't stop and pretend I don't see them, and they don't follow me.

If I got you wrong sorry. it sounded as if you wanted to pshthe limits and one trip to a local hospital will tell you it isn't the place for that.

Yea this definitely isn't place. :)

More or less challenging the insurance company.

Though there are some places you can push them! :D
