Bangkok Bank Bualuang banking has finally updated their website to be able to access with Firefox. In the past it was IE only and for Mac users this meant having to have Windows installed.

Unfortunately Safari is still not supported, but I can live with that.

I've found it impossible to sign up for internet banking on SCB using Firefox as well. I haven't tried it for a while, but it was very frustrating. Maybe they've changed too...

Some clarification requested:

I've got a Mac with IE, although I rarely use IE, as well as FireFox and Safari. FF is usually internet radio, but sometimes videos; main browser is Safari.

No Windoze installed, none desired.

But I've had a Mac version of IE for years, and that wouldn't work on the Bangkok Bank site. They insisted on a MicroShaft operating system.

So, if it works now with FireFox, is it working on a Mac OSX system, or only on the MS system that uses FF?

Works fine with FF on Snow Leopard.......now I can ditch the Bootcamp partition, as that was the only reason I installed it :)

I wrote something about this a while ago, but just to quickly restate.

For transactional products, Bangkok Bank will only oficially support a technology once it has been properly tested. Each new browser adds hugely to the test cycle. Each browser and OS combination needs to be tested, and in 2 languages (English and Thai). For example, XP, VISTA and WIN/7 need to be tested with IE6, IE7 and IE8 (I realize that IE6 does not run on VISTA or WIN/7) Even though automated test tools are used (test robots) it is essential that problems are identified and corrected, so the effort remains huge. And as a commercial enterprise, it is important to meet the needs of customers, and to do this in a secure manner. So while many other browsers exist (Safari, Opera etc. etc.) the combination of IE and FireFox gives sufficient flexibility to meet the needs of the vast majority of customers, including those on MAC (around 8% in Thailand) and Linux (very rare).

Other banks may have a different philosophy and allow customers to encounter problems at their own risk.

For non transactional products (i.e. www.bangkokbank.com) other browsers have been supported for some time, but we still recommend IE as that is the largest part of the market by far.
