More Observations From The Computer Shops

Featured Replies

I found a few more interesting cost comparisons on computer gear during my wander among the computer and electronic shops at Central Beach in Pattaya today. (My cost comparisons are from those available at the USA Amazon and Newegg online stores.) I see that Apple products are still around 25% more expensive than USA pricing...Touch 64GB B14,800 (US $450) vs. $365 Amazon.

I am in need of some accessories (a USB-hub and new radio or blue-tooth mouse) and another external HD.

A Logitec Bluetooth mouse is $43.00 on Amazon but $52.00 equivalent in LOS.

But things are cheaper as well...a Logitec 4-port USB hub is $25.00 at Newegg but the same product is $13.00 equilivent in Thailand.

Where the gap was the largest is for the external HD. I priced the Seagate FreeAgent Go. In Thailand, a 1TB version is B3500 ($106.00) vs. the price of $199 at Newegg and $230.00 at Seagate direct. That is a difference of 100%. Is this because the Seagate drives are made in Thailand? (Another interesting point is that in Thailand, there is also a 1.5TB model available that is not even shown at Newegg or Seagates own direct order site.)

So, if I was to buy all three items, even with the more expensive mouse, the hub and HD are cheaper in LOS so would come out much more ahead buying this basket of items in Thailand.

I am not sure if the Central Beach Mall is the best place for IT products. I go to Tukcom. My Seagate 1 TB there was Baht 2840 about 2 weeks ago. If you want to buy more then you should look in Bangkok - Pantip for instance.

I was not necessarily looking to find the cheapest prices...just doing a look around. Before making a final purchase decision, I would also give Tuk Com a walk through. However, I would still likely buy from one of the "name" IT stores and not one of the smaller independent sellers at TC.

You got a superb price, Hardware House has them listed for 3590b, what shop did you buy from, im in the market for another terrabyte and that price is cheaper than buying a naked one.

It is one of the big dealers here in Thailand. They are at many places. Bangkok Pantip for instance and in Tukcom too. Just look that you get the 7200.12 and not a 7200.11!!! I have 4 of the 7200.12 - no problems. 7200.11 was a Seagate desaster.
