River Rafting In Krabi.

I have been invited to go whitewater rafting in Krabi. There is surprisingly little info available on the net about this. I found a couple blogs from tourists that described a "full day of rafting" to consist of about 1 hour of actual rafting covering 5km. Hardly seems worth it.

"Enjoy a non-stop 50 minutes ,action packed ,wave crashing white water rafting river adventure. "

Must be in Khao Sok National Park. I have never seen much wild water there, so probably not worth a two hour drive.

The beautiful scenery of a natural environment and abundant stream in Tone-Pariwat Wildlife Sanctuary is located at Song-Preak sub-district of Phang-Nga province. The village itself is a natural resource, abundant with quite an appearance of wet forest landscape, featuring many high mountains. The landscape is 100,000 square meters, with flowers and young plants covering the whole area of Muang, Thap-Put and Kapong districts, alongside old mining sites and bird viewpoints plus many streams and canals.

It has been more than 2 years that Song-Preak sub-district was developed and reconstructed for ecotourism and adventure tourism purposes, especially with help of Prajuab Piyavoratham, Managing Director of Phuket Sealand tourism company. The company was the first to come up with the idea of adventurous ecotourism and set up a Sealand Camp in Tone-Pariwat Wildlife Sanctuary.

There are many varieties of activities to choose from such as forest and elephant trekking, ATV riding or four wheel drive tours in the forest but one of the most adventurous and popular activities that most visitors love is whitewater river rafting in Tone-Pariwat Wildlife Sanctuary. The whitewater river rafting activity can only operate two times a day, which is in the morning or in late afternoon.

Settaphan Buttani, the Director of Tourism Authority of Thailand, Phuket office, commented on this ecotourism activity which is supported by his organization:

He told us that the owner of this Sealand camp had spent two years building and renovating the site. Many tour companies also come in and use the site. The owner also developed the Tone-Pariwat waterfall and created roads coming in to the sites.

The Sealand Tour Company prepares many activities for tourists to enjoy. There is also team building before their actual whitewater river rafting. This is a good practice in preparation for whitewater river rafting because it is an extreme sport that requires unity within the group.

We talked to Prajuab, MD of Phuket Sealand tourism company about Sealand camp.

We have many activities here at the camp including adventure whitewater river rafting; we also specialize and manage this rafting activity because we are the founder of whitewater river rafting about 12 years ago. The activity is very popular among tourists and Thais.

Adventurous activities provided here have become very popular among European tourists and young Thais. River rafting is not the only extreme sport they have here at Sea Land Camp. They also have a Flying Fox where you can hold tight to slings and fly yourself down the rope. Also, only 100 meters from the camp, is Song Preak Waterfall where traces of minerals can still be found.

Whitewater rafting activity received Thailand Tourism Standard (Good) Rafting 2007 2010 from the Office of Tourism Development Ministry of Tourism and Sports of Thailand.
