Black Fly On Beans

Hi all

We have just set up a small kitchen garden which was thriving, but just recently there has been in infestation of black fly (afids). We like to try to stay as organic as possible but the spray we are using does not seem to be working any suggestions before we have to revert to chemicals?

You might trying a mixture of the lemon-scented dishwashing soap (50/50 with water)

Supposed to work on some pests.

They use SA dowl at our local organic farms...Its made from a tree leaf.Sorry that in itself is no help unless you can translate it or ask a local. A spray made from chilli etc may do the job as well. Good luck...If that does not work then its back to removing them by hand. when we buy vege from a market we are not sute about we only buy the greens that have been eaten a little by insects!lol

Hi folks

I think you're referring to "sadao" which is the Neem tree (Azadirachta indica). Yeah this well may do the trick although it works as an anti-feedant rather than a contact pesticide so needs to be applied soon after germination in the case of vegetables rather than being used to control an existing infestation. Don't worry to much this black fly invasion you will have every year for a couple of weeks.

They will be gone by themself,take care that there is no sweet fruit around your home,they love garbage especially sweet.
