Armed Robbery at Bang Phli Gold Shop: Suspect Flees with 400000 Worth of Jewellery
Picture captured from CCTV. A delivery rider staged a daring armed robbery at a gold shop in a Bang Phli shopping mall, escaping with gold necklaces worth over 400,000 baht. The suspect, wearing a food delivery uniform and a black helmet, brandished a firearm and stole three necklaces before fleeing the scene. At 19:15 on April 2, police from Bang Phli Police Station, Samut Prakan, received an urgent report of a gold shop robbery on the second floor of a popular shopping mall in Bang Phli Yai subdistrict. Upon arrival, officers found shaken employees who described how the armed suspect had stormed in, declared a robbery, and fled with gold jewellery. According to staff, the suspect was a lone male wearing a long-sleeved green delivery rider uniform, black trousers, and a black full-face helmet. Entering the shop, he suddenly pulled out a firearm, grabbed three gold necklaces from the display tray, and fled within seconds. The stolen items included: • Two gold necklaces (3 baht each) • One gold necklace (2 baht) The total weight of the stolen gold was 8 baht, with an estimated market value of 400,000 baht. Following the robbery, the suspect ran down the stairs before fleeing on a motorcycle. Investigators later discovered that he discarded his rider’s jacket and helmet into Khlong Samrong canal near Wat Luang Pho To in an attempt to evade identification. CCTV footage captured the suspect entering the store while customers were browsing necklaces, with three staff members attending to them. Moments later, he rushed in, pulled out his firearm, grabbed the necklaces, and fled in under a minute. One employee recalled the terrifying moment, stating: “A customer was just looking at some gold when suddenly this man rushed in, pulled out a gun, and shouted, ‘This is a robbery!’ Before we could react, he grabbed the necklaces and ran.” A witness outside the mall said: “At first, I just saw him walking quickly. I thought he was going to use the toilet. Then I saw him throw his helmet into the canal, take off his delivery uniform, and speed off on a motorcycle.” Police Major General Wichit Boonchinwutkul, the Samut Prakan Provincial Police Chief, along with senior officers from Bang Phli Police Station, visited the crime scene and later inspected the suspect’s escape route. “We believe the suspect acted alone and was armed. Given the rising gold prices ahead of the Songkran festival, gold shops should be extra vigilant. We are working on identifying and tracking down the perpetrator and expect progress within the next 2–3 days.” Authorities are currently reviewing CCTV footage, interviewing witnesses, and tracking the suspect’s movements. The public is urged to report any information that may assist in the investigation. -- 2025-04-04
