Well I have received some excellent advice from this forum and have another question.

Rather than apply for a tourist visa for over 30 days ,I have decided to stay in Thailand on my next trip just for 30 days, however i am wondering when the 30 days starts.

My flight will arrive in Thailand at 0055 in the morning, does the 30 days start from when i left Australia the night before (7pmish) or the date of arrival.

I recall once on my few trips that the date of arrival stamp was actually the night before.

I dont want to get refused entry for making a mistake.

Im planning to count day 1 as the arrival date ,eg 0055am ,would that be right? OR the date before midnight when i left Australia?

Starts the day your flight lands (or is scheduled to land) to the day it takes off. Even if you are scheduled to land at 2359 that one minute counts as one full day.

And the day you arrive is day 1, next day day 2 etc so if you arrive on the 1st you have to leave on the 29th - NOT the 30th.

As said, day of arrival counts as day 1. As you are arriving in the early hours, check the permission to stay date put in your passport on entry is correct, as sometimes immigration officers forget to change the date stamp. Depending on when you are travelling, tourist visas are currently free until 4th March 2010 - giving 60 day permission to stay on entry - which may provide you some flexibility with your plans.

Starts when you arrive in Thailand and IIRC they give you a day or two grace period at the airport anyway. Worst case scenario you pay a 500 baht per day overstay fine at the airport on your way out.

A 1 day overstay is fine free if you leave via the airport. If you overstay by 2 days, you pay 1000 baht.
