Khit Tueng Kai ?

Featured Replies

Hi There,

I was wondering what khit tueng kai means...

I know khit tueng means to miss, But what about kai? Did not sound at all like krai unless it can be pronounced like kai?

Any help appreciated

Who are you thinking about, or who are you missing?

You are now getting into clusters, thats why the krai sounded liked kai, I sometimes hear the second letter of the cluster omitted, or spoken with just a hint than can barely be heard, think of the way some hear the word for fruit, ผลไม้, some hear it as po la mai, others hear it as it as pon la mai.

Hi,

Many thanks for your reply. I thought that this might be the case but was not sure.

Assuming it is khit tueng krai what would the meaning be in English? I know krai means to desire but how would this sentense translate into english.

Many Thanks

ใคร่, to want, wish for or desire.

ใคร, who.

Note the spelling for the two words.

In this case I would refer to the first sentance of my previous answer.

I agree with rgs2001uk 'krai' is, at least in the Thai that I'm exposed to, rarely pronounced with an audible 'r' as it is in language learning books and audio samples. As rgs2001uk intimated, consonant clusters like 'kr' and 'gl' to name just two often drop the second consonant sound.

'Kit teung kai?' is a common fixed-pattern expression meaning 'who are you thinking about?' or 'who are you missing?'.
