60-days on my tourist visa comes on the 18th of Jan. I'm on koh lanta now and intend to be in the far south on the 18th. Can someone suggest the best (easiest) way to get the desired extension? Based on my location? Thanks.

You should always obtain extension of stay early so whenever you are near an immigration office prior to the 18th take care of getting the 30 days (it will start after the 18th regardless of when you get it).

Phuket or Krabi are probably the nearest immigration offices to you looking at the map.

Go to Krabi - they are lovely.

If you take a minivan, the driver can get you a motorcycle taxi from the bus station to take you return (is what I did once).

Left first thing in the morning, was back later that afternoon.

Take a drink and snack with you, as you put the paperwork inside, then wait uner the little sala outside and they let you know when its done. they have a photocopier in there, is a few baht per page.

Incredibly friendly and helpful staff.

The guy on the bike was happy to wait in the street the whole time.

If you have a problem at the bus station the guy with the moustache in the corner will help you out and get you on a nice minivan back too (last one leaves at 4.30pm I think).

If you want a car taxi aircon to take you to/from lanta is also an option (4000-5000 return).
