Well so far I'm with Pauly, Dave and especially Donna.

I've never been to jail, never sold my body nor been a sailor.

I have a middle class upbringing and my decision to have both my upper arms tattoed with a two bands (all the way round I might add) below very original designs on both, was one I thought about for over ten years before going ahead with them in 2001.

The problem with tatoos is that there is a negative stigma attatched to them which spoils them for anybody decent who wishes to decorate their skin, which, by the way is something that man has done since he could walk upright.

Mine don't go below the sleeve line of a short sleeve shirt and I can show them when I want. I have regretted them at times but most of the time I do not.

The only one I regret is the stupid 'Pom jai dee' I got tattooed on the left side of my chest when I first came to Thailand, and yes, I feel a <deleted>...

Why did I get it done?

A: Because I was fed up with people, especially Thai's saying that 'only bad man have tattoo' and B: Because my name in Thai didn't have any interesting characters or squiggly bits.

I have had it photographed and have had several photocopies printed so I can work on a design to disguise it.

Oh, and C: Chances are I was shitfaced at the time and it seemed like a good idea.

my daughter did an amazing tattoo on her right shoulder when she turned 16 (she got her legal i.d. in israel at 16), saved 300 shekel and went to a tattoo parlor that i had approved (sterile, no druggies doing the art, etc.. they dont even allow smoking in the place)...

she chose a picture from an art book i bought her in thailand of all the different mythical animals used in ancient thai art.... all the drawings are in black/white, the book is in thai so she sat with sompong (my worker) who explained what each animal represented and what the book described about it.... after about 6 months she had decided... it took three hours and the tattoo artists were amazed by the book... my daughter, clever girl, refused to let them photo coppy, so she has a one of a kind tattoo in israel at least... with many many people bugging her for copy as they want also...

it took her 6 months cause i refused to allow her to do anything in the range of fairies, garfields, etc that at the age of 90, would look really stupid.... the design she chose is complex and intricate, its one colour, sits in a good location so can be covered by shirt if need be all though quite large... a few weeks ago she did a lotus flower on her lower back, tieing in with the dragon...in israel under agers need parental appearance approval for body piercing etc (whether always enforced i dont know but this place did enforce it)

she is not a slut, but a child /woman who definately knows what she wants, also an artist... MY mother had a cow... but i told her either i approve the tattoo's picture, or my daughter may do a really dumb one any way.... and my mom mellowed....

a lot of ethiopian women here have facial blue tattoos in geometric shapes, beauty is in the eye of the beholder....

the book is great, now that i can read some thai, i may try to pay attention to what is written, also a very beautifully done large paper back type, i got in some book store in the bigc in udon thani... quite dog eared now as many people enjoy flipping thru it for ideas...the book has a pic of a garuda on the front; isbn 974 7462 42 7

if anybody is looking for art designs from the ramakayana

Hmm, I have a tattoo; I've been to jail (bullpen), I've done drugs and, I was in a department of the Navy, "The Mens Department" Who knows what that was? LOL

The tattoo I had, I regreted getting, I got it back in 1999; as a stupid brainwashed (Marine Bootcamp) 18 year old kid.

I had it covered up by Khun Noi on Beach Road next to the entrance of walking st.

Here is a picture after the outline for the cover-up was completed:

Now I'm still a kid in most older peoples eyes at the age of 23. I still regret ever getting a tattoo. I don't like the one I have and, now I've made it larger.

My Wife hates tattoo's. She's always willing to give somthing a chance though (can't hate something if you never tried to experience it - I feel the same way), so she told me she wanted to try one of those temporary Henna tattoo deals. I was like whatever honey, up to you. She picked it out of the book on the beach as we were drinking from coconuts, a lovely tribal arm band with a heart in the center. It was done in about 5 minutes. I paid the guy the 300 Baht and, as soon as he left, she started wimpering "Honey I not like, take out, take out!; Puhweeze, quickly!!" I started laughing and she got mad, the little beach chair watcher waitress lady brought over a towl and a bottle of water and we tryed our best to scrub it out for her.

I joke with her about that from time to time BTW.

I unfortunately have some huge tattoos that I got when I was 14, I never show them and feel a bit pissed off with myself for getting them. I am waiting for the day when there is a proven removal method.

On women, they look really low class in my book (on men to for that matter), but I dont judge anyone for them as they are probably in the same position as me.

Dont get tattooed you will regret them one day.

I personally like tattoos and have quite a few myself. Some I recieved when I was younger and wished I had  thought it out a little more. I think, to each his own be it tattoos, body piercings or what not. Of course I'm a sailor so who cares what I look like, my mother still loves me :D

Tattoos are for sailors and prostitutes. No person of intelligence would get one. It's kind of like listening to Eminem; no one of right mind does it. There is nothing on earth worse than seeing a beautiful girl turn around and then seeing a hideous tattoo destroying her lovliness. It's a shame people become twisted

:D:D:D:D

I suppose that half the female "stars" in hollywood might disagree with you a little :o

Please define twisted? :D

you just hit the nail on the head; it is those so-called stars who have the real and fake tattoos who instill the feeling in a dumb public of girls who then think it is sexy and pretty to have them when actually the tattoos look horrific on women, making them look low class. we should start another thread on breast implants, another hideous craving of some girls

She has those also :D I'm not scared come on you flamers.

If that's the case, that's your problem buddy. No need to reach below the belt with the queer bashing

my wife doesnt look too horrific, i think so anyway......hmmmm

i think it has alot to do with the placement of a tattoo, i would never get or let her get a tattoo that cannot be easily covered for formal occasions

I think that is wrong. Anyone desiring a tattoo should have it in a place that cannot be covered, being that they love the ugly things so much. Show off the wondrous work of art that the worship to all comers

Yeah right, and.............

ALL black men are drug dealers

ALL Thai girls are Prostitutes

ALL homosexuals are going to ######

"No person of intelligence would............"

No person of intelligence would actually spout the bilge that comes from your mouth. You need to get a brain transplant, sorry my mistake. I mean implant.

######, why isn't there a "######" icon on this forum.

Please God, give me the strength to stop wanting to hurt opinionated, cretinous....(insert whatever insulting word takes your fancy).

As for the prostitute comment....you do realise by that comment you are actually directly calling the loved ones of many members of this board prostitutes. I'd love to hear you say that in a crowded bar, rather than from behind the safety of a screen, Tit...and no, I don't mean This is Thailand

And why is the word h-ell filtered out? Seems a bit play school. :o

And you feel you are able to write this remark after the childish tirade in your previous posting?

IMHO remarks such as...

Please God, give me the strength to stop wanting to hurt opinionated, cretinous....(insert whatever insulting word takes your fancy).

...are usually associated with the worse elements of 4B (perhaps not playschool – but obviously closer than you are aware).

Childish tirade? I beg to differ sir. Posted in response to an opinionated, idiotic view point. And no, I don't FEEL I was able to write the remark, I did write it. Otherwise you wouldn't have been able to respond to it. :o

You mean, I am the only one here who met a prostitute and married her?

Every other farang on TV has been the lucky one, won the lottery and met the Thai girl who has never worked in the world’s oldest profession?

Answering yes to these two questions has got to be the grossest hypocrisy and an example of the cloud cookoo land in which most posters in this thread seem to exist.

Solid point Thomas. All these posters are living with blinders on.

With respect Thomas, I think your missing the point. It isn't whether forum members have or haven't married a prostitute that is the issue here. It is the derogatory way in which "queer for fears" is talking about them. He doesn't like tattoos, says that only sailors, prostitutes and criminals have them.....and everyone who has them has no intelligence. Now, maybe you take no offence in someone calling your wife a prostitute, and if she was (past tense you'll notice) then fair play to both of you, a job is a job is a job. I was "screwed" for crap money in lots of jobs in the UK. But would you take offence if your wife had a tattoo and "queers " said she was thick as pig shit because of it. It isn't so much what he is saying, but the detrimental way he is talking about people he doesn't know, met or even read a post from that is guaranteed (spelling) to make peoples hackles rise, or not?

Bit of confusion i think, Sorry :D

My wife worked in my bar as a hostess (before i bought it) and yes i barfined her on our first night out as it were :o

No blinkers here, just happiness :D

There is an american man in Pattaya who has a full body suit of tattoos. He was interviewed a while ago in the Pattaya Mail. I asked him once where he got his ink done, he told me in LA on the Sunset Strip about 23 yrs ago. The designs were spotless, clear as crystal, colours not faded, not a heavy handed tattoo, as you see a lot here in Thailand(no smudges, thick lines)...The guy did avoid the sun..he was quite pale....Anyhow he was a walking piece of art....

If Tattoos are well done, they are alright....It just seems that people will put anything on their bodies....and not worry too much about the workmanship and the care needed to maintain nice ink.... :o

Some tatoos on women look sexy, I especially like the ones on the small of the back. I don't have any myself nor would I get one but then I don't like pain.
