Love him or hate him you have to admire this guy, he is larger than life.

And the biggest thorn in the side of the current government by far. :D

A fossilized brontosuarus turd is larger than life too,

can't say i want it visiting me either.

He is motivated by 'appearances of being of great importance',

and is willing to spend foolishly to gain that appearance.

I was speaking to some very well educated chinese businessman in kuala lumpur and they said their network of friends followed the thaksin/PAD saga and that they actually backed thaksin more than this government as thaksin was more open and did alot more for the country and the poor and realised that problems were thai not blame on others like farang. Also they stated that PAD seemed to want thailand to be same as china with very strict human rights etc.. etc.. They actully felt the pad was no better than the BNP in england the only difference being BNP are racist working class <deleted> and PAD are middle class racist <deleted>. Would like to hear view of other nations in asia and not the usual farangs on here!

Ok this was just one group of businessman from china but maybe these feeling are more widespread???

This is total crap. Sounds to me like a totally invented 'comment'.

Do you really think Chinese businessmen en masse are really interested in Thailands politics, do you really think Chinese businessmen are deeply knowledgeable about the PAD beliefs, etc ., etc. This is total rubbish.

As for Taxsin being a go-between between China and India, forget it. Taxsin is nothing more than just tolerated in China (You might like to remember that 18 months ago he was regularly in China and HK and making numerous political comments. Do you see the same thing today? NO! Why? Because he was told very clearly that he was banned from using mainland China or HK as a base for his political activities.)

China does it's own bidding. Chinese business negotiators, deal makers, government liaison people, etc., are all mainland Chinese, and they are highly capable people, they don't need or want non mainland Chinese in this picture.

And exactly the same comment in regard to India. You can make all sorts of observations about India but the reality is that it has some of the most clever business people in the world, do you really think they need someone like taxsin with all his baggage to 'help' them?

In fact it brings another question - is taxsin really seen as a world class clean businessman? I doubt it. Does he get invited to speak at any international highly credible economic, or other, events? NO.

Unless of course you count a three hour presentation to the economic beaurocrats in Cambodia, and the feedback was that he said nothing they didn't already know and practice.

Further, would you like to share some examples of how the PAD wanted Thailand to have very strict human rights like China.

Chinese businessmen are certainly interested in Thai politics and certainly know about PAD and PT.

I don't think China has strict human rights. Rather the reverse, Their record is appalling. Recent news events included.

You get these canards turning up here fairly regularly. The previous one was that he had changed his name. Seems to be just an opportunity to encourage some posters to vent their feelings.

Blame his brother-in-law for announcing it.

Regular canards?

Well if it looks like a duck and quacks like a duck, but it comes from PTP,

it's likely a rat in feathers with a canned sound track.

I think thats your problem. If it looks like a duck you immediately think it is.

Clever play on words, Animatic. But the reality is these "news" items are canards. First his name, and now advisor to Sri Lanka. Give us a break . we aren't all gullible folk on TV

It seems you must try to out-clever me by two,

and in the effort never quite seem to see my meaning in the simple words.

You imply the exact opposite of my obvious meaning, for reasons I can't fathom.

And more so because I was agreeing with you and you STILL take an adversarial position...

Also appears you miss the play on words it seems. Canard = Duck in French,

but is well known in English cuisine also, under that name. Canard a l'orange.

Obviously, to make the joke work, I understood BOTH meanings properly.

canard –noun,

1. a false or baseless, usually derogatory story, report, or rumor.

2. Cookery. a duck intended or used for food.

3. Aeronautics.

a. an airplane that has its horizontal stabilizer and elevators located forward of the wing.

b. Also called canard wing. one of two small lifting wings located in front of the main wings.

c. an early airplane having a pusher engine with the rudder and elevator assembly in front of the wings.

Random House Dictionary, © Random House, Inc. 2009.

French, duck, canard, probably from the phrase vendre un canard à moitié, to sell half a duck, to swindle

I certainly wouldn't buy a duck from Jatuporn on any day of the year

I did not miss the play on words at all.

I said Clever play on words, Animatic.

I also did not miss the technique you use to avoid a comment when you have lost the plot. You use it regularly in many threads. Glad to see that you now understood the meaning that there were two false rumours, to both of which you first subscribed.

And no one could ever accuse you of using simple words. The more obtuse the better it seems. Good technique I suppose.

I couldn't help but notice that Thaksin, has in fact, not become an adviser for Sri Lanka...

You get these canards turning up here fairly regularly. The previous one was that he had changed his name. Seems to be just an opportunity to encourage some posters to vent their feelings.

The good number of posts to this thread have ranged from viewing the report incredulously to a certain amount of questioning of the report. I've posted using conditionals such as "if" while other posters have immediately cited the guy's PR team and activities as the source of much "news" about the man, to include true observations such as Thaksin being "larger than life".

Some posters comment on the media, others comment on Thaksin, others comment on comments about the media while others comment on comments about Thaksin................any which way but loose, we're all commenting on the one, single, sole guy and his minions.

The present lull (before the storm?) has induced (or encouraged) several posters to lay back for a time, but it also has produced the usual activity from the Thaksin PR shop.

That seems a long winded way of admitting that the original report that he was to become an advisor was wrong. Can't you see, Publicus, that this sort of propaganda from the anti-Taksin press keeps coming up regularly. And you fall for it just as regularly. I don't support Taksin as I said before, but these silly comments against him all the time are counter productive.

If you did NOT misunderstand the word play,

then why was your take on the message so wrong?

In fact the complete inverse of the obvious message

Seems not to make much difference; Obtuse, opaque, obstreperous etc.

Obliquely obvious is out too I suppose.

Simple or more precise wording; the meaning goes out the window anyway.

Seems a prerequisite modus; get his words out of context and nullify them if possible.

So lets get this right;

the more precise word is not to be used, replaced with a simpler wording,

with more malleable/bendable/re-interpretable meanings? Allowing

more targets to hit in pulling it apart, thus prolonging the discussion?

Is that so it may be twisted more freely and prolong a discussion into misunderstanding?

Sorry I prefer precision of wording when possible

Such as:

Somchai was talking out his ass when he said this Thaksin/SriLanka statement,

and it's reflected in the truthfulness of his words.

None whatsoever.

Some one noted that there is no free press that the government controls the press

and stiffles dissenting talk from oppsition points of view...

Then why does Somchai get to blather on like this and it's printed?

Why does Jatuporn get to say utter bilge day in and day out,

and it GETS PRINTED????

The news reports weren't "wrong", it was a lie told by his brother-in-law.

Are you saying that Somchai is part of this anti-Thaksin press conspiracy?

or

That the man who stood in front of the Thai news press conference was an impostor and not really Somchai?

The media reported what he said and that it was so quickly exposed by them as a lie is rather complimentary of the media.

As he was the source of the "announcement", where is the condemnation of the liar that started it all?

So it would seem Thaksin and crew are regularly hoisted on their own verbal petards,

and assiduously go beck for more petards, in the mistaken assumption that;

No press is bad press.

In which case the anti-Thaksin press gives them all the rope they ask for,

and answers with 'Hang'em high', as a coda and denouement.

That the man who stood in front of the Thai news press conference was an impostor and not really Somchai?

?

This sentence amuses me because Somchai Wongsawat has what can only be described as a very typical Thai- Chinese face.

The husband of one of my colleagues looks exacty like him, even the gentle mannerisms, we congratulated her when she 'rose' to become the PM's wife but of course it was not for long!

Quite amusing how people dont realise it was Thaksin's bro-in-law who announced this to the world. It was part of the usual team Thaksin PR offensive where they at periods of lowering interest announce anything to keep them in the news whether it is true or not. As long as it is sentational is all that matters. It is similar to many PR campaigns. And sure it upsets his more intelliogent supporters here when his opponents here get a bunch of ammunition for cynical comments.
