This may seem like a weird topic....But, my wife AND local Vet in the Nonghoy area insist that Thai dogs (not purebreds but local mixed typical Thai looking dogs) dont need any treatment for heartworms. I'm finding it hard to believe for some reason as usually in western countries the Vet will check blood & prescribe pills or injections. I believe the heartworms are caused by mosquitoes.

I love my dog and dont want it to get heartworm problems. Does anyone have experience in this matter and can recommend a Vet?

Thanks.

Thai dogs may have a better resistance but have seen some get heartworm.

I had a Thai dog die from Heartworm many years ago (100% Thai mutt). It was very old so lowered immunity probably but nonetheless that's what it died from.

If you want to be sure your dog doesn't get it, definitely do the pills every month.

The chewy ones can just be fed like a dog treat. I think the brand is called Heartguard.

Blood check then a chewy treat every month. They have a sticker on the back of the pack so you don't forget a month or double dose.

I foster dogs from the www.carefordogs.org shelter. They have over 100 dogs and every one of them is treated with HeartGuard.

Yes, all dogs need Heartguard against heartworm. I had two dogs which caught heartworm, one an Alsatian, and the other a Thai dog. The treatment is one of those which nearly kills the dog in order to cure.

Most Thai dogs I've seen could use a little cyanide. :) The streets are FULL of soi dogs that bark continuously when anyone walks by. And this is especially the case at night.
